Advice about LG 42C24LA tv to be a monitor?

Hi after any advice regards the LG 42C24LA tv which I’m considering using as my main monitor for MSFS2020, lashed up to a PC …,

Anyone out there have this set up?
Am I correct to suggest using the hdmi outputs to link the tv to the PC? I currently use a Digital Output lead (?) on my existing set-up…

my PC’s motherboard is a Asus TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI)… I’m wanting to know that this tv would be great for MSFS 2020 as it’s still a lot of money to spend only to then be disappointed!!

Cheers for any feedback, much appreciated…
Chris

Have been using it (LG OLED C2 42") as my main PC monitor for the last few months and it works fine. Great blacks and dynamic range. 120Hz and G-Sync. It’s all I need.

I use it also for work in my home office so it’s on for at least 10-12 hours every day. No issues so far.
I use a dark Windows theme for the taskbar, turn it off when I leave my desk for longer periods and run the OLED clearing regularly.

Previously had a regular 43" monitor for many years so the size wasn’t an issue.

Only thing I can suggest is to maybe consider the larger 48" one if the main use is MSFS. Would allow you to zoom out more and see a larger portion of the cockpit without moving the camera.
For work and faster paced games 48" might be too much.

There is a great guide online how to set it up correctly for PC use. It requires some settings to be tweaked. If you can’t find it ping me, I’ll look it up.

Ah… And yes. You connect it using HDMI. Same as any other monitor. It doesn’t have a Display Port connection.
Not sure why you mention the motherboard. It’s irrelevant.

Do you already have a 4k screen? If not, is your PC up to it? Compared to 1080p you’ll be running at 50% (or even less) the frames.
A current or previous generation top-end CPU and RTX3080Ti would be the minimum to have a smooth experience with good visuals.

Thanks for your time…
This is what I’ve got

1x Intel Core i7-10700K CPU, 8 Cores / 16

Threads, 3.8 - 5.1GHz

1× Noctua NH-U12S Chromax Black CPU Cooler

1× 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Memory (2 × 16GB

Sticks)

1× NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6

Graphics Card

1x 24x DVD-RW Drive

1x Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold 850W PSU

1× Windows 10 Home 64-bit

1× Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - Premium

Deluxe Edition

1× 500GB Seagate Barracuda 510 M.2 PCle Solid

State Drive

1x 1TB Samsung 870 QVO Solid State Drive

1x Seagate 4TB IronWolf Pro 7200RPM NAS Hard Disk…

I’m relatively new and not wanting to waste my monies hence asking the question…

I think anything bigger than the 42”(for my desk space) would be too large, but I understand your comments…

Would my PC specs run it smoothly??
I like to mainly fly GA , twin props daytime and night time flights….

Cheers, Chris

Your PC specs look great for MSFS! With the 3070, however, you’re probably only going to be able to handle HIGH graphics settings at best in the sim at 4K (unless you run 1440p).

I use a 55" Qled at 4k and HDR10 and will never go back to a regular PC monitor. You’ll want to make sure your monitor supports HDR10 for future upgrading

Thanks for your time and input….
So my PC will handle the OLED tv with High settings which I can live with!
Only question now is I’m looking at the OLED version and you’ve got me wondering if I should be looking at your QLED tv in the 42”??

I’m using this TV with my Xbox for MSFS. I returned a Samsung monitor which I was disappointed with and purchased this TV instead. I’m delighted with it.

Wow, that looks amazing!
Is that the very same LG42C24LA tv??

If you do look at the Samsung Qleds just be aware some of the gaming features get dropped when you go under 55" (at least that was the case a year or two ago). Just make sure you check all of the specs. Also, I don’t think @BigMuss had the Samsung Qled model that was returned.

No I didn’t return a Samsung Oled monitor. :joy:

It was a Samsung Odessey G7 gaming monitor (mini led). I didn’t like the curves and it’s refresh rate caused a slight flickering that really irritated my eyes.

The C2 oled is awesome in my setup. I’m using it with Dolby Vision on Xbox and couldn’t be happier. I think it’s doing some mild frame interpolation too for VRR which is giving me the impression (and according to the TVs FPS counter) of close to 60fps at 4k (it’s certainly much less juddery than the Samsung monitor was)

Yes, I’ve just checked and it is that model number

I am intrigued. I have a 42" as my main TV and I sit about 10ft away to watch that - how far do you folks position yourselves from the screen when using it as a monitor?

65" and 7 feet. Works great.

Between 1 and 2 feet (30-60cm) depending on how I sit at the moment. Mostly closer to 2 feet.

Interesting. I assume that RonS is on XBox and you are on PC? The general rule of thumb for eye safety when monitor (aka TV) watching is 3 times screen size in feet - that would be then, 10ft 6ins for a 42" screen

I’m on PC.

Eye safety? idk

But I think that applied to the old Cathode Ray Tube, CRT
TV and monitors.

Is there any safety concerns for new LCD, OLED displays?

I think that you are correct to some extent. Not CRT but that 3 times distance rule of thumb is for pre HD TV sets. True, the higher the resolution the advice is the closer you may sit. HD the advice is 1.5 to 2.5 times and OLED 1 to 1.5 times the diagonal screen measurement. Haven’t checked that since I retired and that was definitely pre Ultra HD
