Hi - I’ve been using a T16000 with throttle to fly the sim for a few weeks now, and decided to invest in a Logitech yoke and pedals (had to pay over the odds, none of the major suppliers have stock or seem to know when it’s coming). But I’m finding it much harder to turn with the new setup, I keep stalling or going into absurd rolls whereas with just the stick I was getting along fine.
Does anyone have any advice for a newbie getting used to a yoke/rudder setup? Or can anyone point me to a decent tutorial?
Also, the default setting for the pedals is counter to what I’d expect - press the right pedal to turn left? Is that correct?
That’s not right the pedal should turn you the direction of the pedal you press.
I use the same rudder pedals.
First off reduce the sensitivity drastically!
Second unplug and replug and use the default setting.
Thirdly if that doesn’t work, reverse the axis in the setup menu
Fourthly - gentle, gentle, gentle touches on the rudder and brakes - don’t “yank” by pushing too hard!
Here’s a little exercise for you. Fly straight and level in calm air. Use your yoke to turn a full 360 degrees but use your rudder pedals in the opposite direction to keep the horizon line dead level - ie, show no bank. That’ll test ya!
Good luck but most importantly, have fun. Let us know how you get on.
You may have already, but I found that unless your controllers - all of them if multiple - are calibrated in the Windows Control Panel/Devices and Printers area, they will not perform correctly. Once that is done, all odd performing devices should perform correctly. Your choice of which brake pedal is controlled by which foot is set up in the controller settings area.
Thanks folks, I guess it’s just another learning curve. And yes, @YearlingDeer319, I think I’ll give that a go!
Start off as you would do in PPL training. Fly one of the “clockwork” Cessna’s and keep your turns coordinated by using the rudder pedals to keep the ball centred.
You will have a turn coordination dial on the instrument panel. It looks a bit like a spirit level, but is curved and has a black ball rather than a bubble… that’s what you need to keep centred.
Oh… and make sure auto-rudder is turned off in the settings. Think I saw it as an option, it always was in the older MS sims.
