Thanks for the info, Alacran48 !
May I ask you, if you can see any files with names containing “LOD0” in the model subfolder of the plane ?
There are 26 files with LOD0 in the model subfolder. Half of them are BIN files and the rest are 3D object files.
Thanks again !
It means I shouldn’t have bought from the marketplace. Silly me ![]()
I guess I’ll buy it again from another store.
I bought it again from Simmarket, and indeed I finally have the LOD0 files visible in the model folder.
Thanks to this, I could edit the LOD0 cockpit file to insert the copilot model on the passenger seat in the virtual cockpit. It was about time.
I still wonder why the aircraft makers refuse to include this in their models, though ?
This is one of my 2 main peeves. No copilot and no proper ATC callouts. These things always need fixing. Condor7777 has a project for always visible pilot and copilot. I was hoping between the 2 of you, you could add this aircraft to his project. I like to “buy” aircraft with points I earn in Windows and XBox. That limits me to the MP. I guess that is another peeve the MS needs to restrict the aircraft.cfg file and the models. Anyway, thank you for any attention to pay to this matter.
Yeah, when you asked the question, my immediate response (internal thoughts) was that, well, developers seem split on what they think co-pilot/passenger visibility means. Some think it means from the external view (which, should be automatic, there shouldn’t be any question whether it should be visible), and some understand that what people want is the option to have the co-pilot/passengers visible when you’re inside the cockpit.
It really bothers me how hard Asobo made it for authors to make the co-pilot/passengers visible when we’re inside the cockpit. I get that some people don’t want them there, but I absolutely do and I want that choice. It seems, however, the reason they made it hard is because Asobo seems to have a hard time controlling the avatar bodies and where they are in the plane and their limb positioning so it doesn’t look weird or ridiculous. But, for me, I really want to have a passenger next to me when I’m flying.
it’s that exactly- some of the 3rd party planes are not compatible and the copilot avatars can clip or extend through the fuselage. Rather than have it work in some cases and not in others they just made extra steps for the developer to make it work- probably hoping that the extra work would encourage them ensuring a good fit
I noticed the Swift has instruments lighting, but no landing of taxi lights. Is that normal ?
I’m using it in MSFS2024 now and it works great. I have just imported the model I had tweaked from MSFS2020 (with the copilot visible in the cockpit), and it displays nicely. The only issue is that I have to disable the pilot model, because it also appears in the cockpit and blocks my view.
I wish AH would modify the position of the option tablet (because now it’s literally under the legs of my copilot) and would add some landing light.
IRL the plane does not have landing or taxi lights. It was meant for daytime VFR flight only. I doubt AH would add something that was never there.
Only the early GC-1A with its 85hp engine had no landing lights as it had no electrical system at all. There was a brief period of crossover where rare late A models had an electrical system and often no landing lights but many A’s were converted to the B’s 125hp engine, electrical system, and landing lights in the wheel wells. As AH’s manual lists both engines, landing lights would be completely reasonable, especially since it has an electrical system and panel lights.
Thanks for the replies, I wasn’t aware of that.
I thought that the plane was often higly customized by its owners, like kit planes, and indeed the presence of instrument lighting led me to think that maybe some owners had also added some landing or at least a taxi light. ![]()
The thing is, this Swift is really pleasant to fly in VR, and the instrument lights are not bad to use at night (or more precisely, dusk and dawn
), even though they are not dimmable. But it’s a bit difficult to taxi at night without a taxi or a landing light ![]()
This is probably my favorite AH plane to fly. Its Simple, flys really nicely, and is not too challenging to get back on the ground or off the ground. Its the “I dont know what to fly tonight, so lets fly this” plane in my hanger.
The Cessna 140 would be up in that list too if it did not have the most obnoxious sounds to it, but anywhoo. There is a guy that lives near me that brings his Swift to local fly-ins often. Nice guy to talk to, and it is a very neat little plane. And when I say little… I mean little lol. The cockpit is smaller than a Mazda Miata, you need to like who you are flying with.
It’s beautiful bird for sure !! ![]()
About the AH Cessna 140, is the sound that bad ? I’ve been considering this aircraft for the very same reason I purchased the Swift: vintage beauty ! (and also, a float version…). If I’m not mistaken, it has some nice cockpit lights too, right ?
Yea, the AH 140 is really bad sound wise. The sounds are soo loud that I have to turn down my headset to about 10% volume, and there is distortion in the sounds. I did give it a try last night to modify the sound file with the help of ChatGPT and it is much better. Still loud, but you can tell the different sounds, they are not blending into just noise anymore. ChatGPT said that you can map to default Cessna 152 sounds too if I wanted to do that. Still might give that a try. The plane itself fly’s good. Its extremely predictable, like the real one the flaps are more for show than for go, they don’t make much difference at all. It is NOT a fast plane, best for tooting around town. I think I got it up to 85kts in a dive lol. Modeling is pretty good, I fly 100% of the time in VR, and it looks great. I would not get it through the marketplace, If you get it you will want to adjust the sounds through the file structure. It was very easy to do with some AI guidance.
The swift is a much more polished plane.
Thanks for the feedback ! I will anyway get it through an external store, since I want to edit the cockpit file to make the copilot visible next to me. And yes, aliasing the sounds to the default C152 is a good idea indeed, I didn’t think of that.
I’ll stop the off-topic from now, thanks again ![]()
Remembering that sounds are a personal thing….
The real Cessna 140 is pretty loud without a headset…
#justsaying
#notsayingPeopleAreWrongToDislikeTheSounds
For me, I have a volume knob… But it’s totally cool if people don’t like it… Obviously!!
I personally think the sounds were obnoxiously loud. Soo loud that it caused distortions between all of the other sounds. I understand that the 140 is a louder aircraft been in one myself, but these are just way over the top. I use sayintentions and I could not hear ATC at all with the default volumes. Turning down my headset also turns down Sayintentions, So I modified them. It is more in line with what I have experienced in an actual 140 without the audio distortion.
They did right in the Swift with a volume control in the clipboard. That helped a great deal. The swift in real life is not overly loud.
I think adding an in aircraft engine volume knob (as in the Globe Swift) should be adopted universally. It’s just the best solution to address personal preference in this area.
This is a sim, it’s meant to be used for fun and get out of it what we want. Your concerns are 110% valid. And perfectly reasonable to express your feelings, thoughts and concerns. You’re not wrong in any shape or form.
