Aerosoft Twin Otter baby!

Also have a feeling it will get scenery-bundled… Aerosoft is usually not the type of developer who significantly re-does its products.
I cant really imagine that they completely overhaul this plane. But i hope im wrong…

Or it could be that having listened all the loud, longly made and oft repeated complaints that they are not developing the product, they decided to do something about it.

So now we can complain loudly and longly that they are developing the product again…

Except they didn’t stop selling the Islander while V2 was being worked on.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the owners/investors of Aerosoft are looking for a new development team to bring the company into the 21st century. Flight Simming has never been better circumstances and yet Aerosoft was all the time stating how they’re just in it for the quick buck, overly confident with their “marketing data” without showing a lot of interest in the next generation simmer. Or the old one, for that matter.

If I’d own a company like that, I honestly wouldn’t continue employing people who have so little love for all these new opportunities, and then continuously communicate that with my would-be customers.

Maybe they’re just looking for a complete make-over, starting with their trademark-aicraft.

Really hoping for some serious developer bringing us a proper Twotter. Maybe the new move from Aerosoft will open the market for someone else. Would happily pay again, but not to Aerosoft.

Another interesting move by “AbandonSoft”, as I like to call them. Given their track record I really doubt the resurfacing of the Twotter will be a positive thing for the simming community. I hope I’m wrong. The Twotter deserves better.

Probably part 2 of Antarctica will be released in a package deal with an updated Twin Otter

After owning their CRJ since release and it’s “upgrades” I am no longer a customer of theirs. They have really been added to the list of “release and forget” titles. No thanks.

According to Aerosoft it won’t resurface anytime soon in the store and they said that the Otter won’t be in the next world update. Even if they are developing a new version, pulling it now without giving any further information when the re-release is probably months if not years away makes no sense. My guess is that it will be in a future WU, but just not the next one. The rights to sell or distribute the plane probably lie now with MS and NDAs prevent Aerosoft from giving any news.

And as always, Aerosoft is indeed not very communicative…

Aerosoft on their Forum:

“Not everybody needs to know everything. And there is no obligation for Aerosoft to talk about details of their business and certain decisions. I‘m sure that Aerosoft will announce more when time has come.”

All of which is true.

But it’s an odd approach to customer relations!

I mean if Samsung withdrew my model of refrigerator from the market place, without a replacement, or explanation, I’d really want to know why. I’d be thinking is it defective? Will it cause damage? The same can be just as true of a digital product.

Which is why it always makes sense to get ahead of the story and not let the speculation flourish, which it otherwise surely will.

They do seem to be intent on committing reputational suicide don’t they.

Very weird, they even did the sound update and generally i wouldnt consider it the worst plane by far.

Definitely not the worst plane, but it didnt meet the expectations from their TwinOtter that was released for older Simulators, which got the PC Pilot Platinum award and Mutleys Hangar “Best GA Aircraft” award.
But the MSFS version is just a shadow of its predecessor… which really deserved the “Study Level” tag with all the simulated systems, engine damage modell and extra features.

If theyll rework it and release it why not but i wont buy it twice.

I actually really enjoy the Twotter. Having been a passenger in one I can confirm that the sounds are indeed very realistic after the update. Obviously I have never flown one but it feels good to fly and the flight model seems accurate. I’m landing at St Barths in the sim with the same descent profile, speed and power settings as the real thing according to videos and personal experience.

If you’re looking for study level, this isn’t it. It’s not that important to me though and I still treat it as study level, which means I try to follow the real world procedures for engine management etc… It’s an aircraft I want to get up in the air as soon as possible to do some island hopping and therefore I care less about study level quality when it comes to the Twotter.

My main gripes with the Twotter are the cockpit lights that are on by default when you start and the strobe light that isn’t mapped to “strobe light” in the control settings for some reason. It can also be a little too squirrely on the ground but I have never not been able to correct it with my rudder pedals.

This plane has so much potential waiting to be realised. It is a shame Aerosoft left it at the state where it is in now.

And this move without any explanation just illustrates their lack of awareness of modern customer interaction.

Of course we are not entitled to anything. But it is just better to inform your customers if you want to build enduring customer relations.

The square wheels is the first thing that blew my mind about the Aerosoft version. Even the cruddiest wheelie bin model I drop into the sim has rounder wheels.

The Twin Otter is the only plane I’ve flown in in the real world in recent times. The current sounds are pretty close.

What the Aerosoft plane could never replicate was the highly strange feeling of a short approach where it’s pointing down at an extreme angle and feels like an invisible hand is holding it up.

No idea why they’ve done this and they’re not going to care about what anyone else thinks anyway.

That sounds like an approach in beta mode, didn’t know that was allowed on a Twotter. It surely would be possible IRL.
