Aerosoft Twin Otter baby!

They started with the Velocity XL.

Velocity XL is built off default Asobo Studio EXTRA 330LT components…such as sound effects.

So in short is this the case:
I bought the Twin Conner(sic) It wasn’t really that great, no where near its hype and although I can still install it, I wont as I never really flew it after the first few flights due to it needing a patch or two.

It has now been sold on, and I will essentially have to buy it again? What am I missing aside from what I paid for and/or my expectations?

So what? So does the Sting, and many other aircraft.
That doesn’t negate the fact that they did the most of the rest.

That’s not tweaking someone else’s plane, that’s using some elements to finish a plane.

There is quite a big difference between the two approaches.

I think BS also does a squeezes fingers little more than tweaking someone elses plane.
Granted the overall model and sounds is a huge amount of work, but cockpits are where a lot of people spend most of there time it seems and BS do seem to put some effort into their analog cockpit conversions.

“tweaking” would be just doing some minor flight model changes, or maybe even adding bush wheels.

The question was

and that’s pretty much what the Velocity XL is afaik, where they did the model++, using a few elements of existing planes like many others do.

Unless you have a detailed breakdown of all the components and where they came from?

I don’t have a dog in this fight tbh, but if you feel the need to tear it down be my guest!

You may cope with it however you please emotionally, I never called it tweaking someone else plane.
The point of the matter is it isn’t a complete “FROM SCRATCH BUILD”.
Either way it’s still one of my favorite planes as I absolutely love the interior textures and lighting at night. You can go “so what” someone else.
Thanks!:upside_down_face:

I don’t “cope” with it all. It’s just another plane I have. I was purely answering a question about “instead of tweaking someone else’s plane?” while you’re being pedantic about “created something from scratch yet” because they used some existing sound components.

I’m a musician/sound guy myself, and good sound is key.
A solo dev without the budget to do the proper job doesn’t have too many options.
Recording custom sound is a non-trivial expensive process for a solo project, either get a library or resuse something from the sim isn’t ideal, but it is what it is.

If they had used a library you didn’t know about then it would be “from scratch” according to your criteria.
Like many developers do. WWIse mixing can also be used to enhance it, like the Sting developer did.

I don’t even know if they made the model himself, or bought it off the web.

Not something I fret about myself, I just fly it now and again.

We’ve been told know from the head honcho, we just need to wait for them to re-release it. No word on when that will be.

don’t give them too much attention, they are neglecting big part of the work done on, then they will blame the sounds of the knobs using asobo default sounds… what about steam gauges’s faillures system, climate control and complete electrical systems modeled being omited. That s far to be just “visual” without mentionning all improvment done on avionics sides with the custom KAP140, or vor degradation …

Who wants to speculate who the new owner’s gonna be?

It can only be Microsoft, can‘t it? Aerosoft‘s guy said „soon all will be clear and it is not bad news for sure“. Having another developer re-sell the product again, even an improved version would be bad news and very bad press. I can‘t imagine Blackbird or any other dev taking that risk.

In my opinion it’s probably Asobo/Microsoft or maybe Blacksquare, if they are feeling lucky…

However, suffice to say, this is probably the worst way and a terrible business practice on how a company handles their own product. Following the release of this and the CRJ, im glad that I refrained from buying any Aerosoft product and most likely will not buy anything from them in the future.

One can just hope, that now, the Twin Otter finally gets the fidelity and development it deserves, for such an iconic airplane.

I agree. If it is Asobo/Microsoft, Aerosoft will be subject to the usual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and that’ll be why they haven’t had much to say on the matter. Given that Asobo/Microsoft contract out to third-party developers, the same developer could be working on the Twin Otter as before - but to a different standard this time, possibly “Expert” series level?

If it is Microsoft/Asobo … how is that going to improve the product beyond what it already is?

Everything relating to Aerosoft and Hans Hartmann is starting to give me a bad feeling.

First the CRJ was released and I have to admit it was and still is a great plane but unfortunately was abandoned without any updates.

Then the Twotter was a disaster release with squared wheels, it got a few fixes and was abandoned (see a pattern?).

Now outside of Aerosoft we got the ATR I have the feeling it will get abandoned too.

Devs that abandon their products are a huge problem in flight simming.

I personnaly don’t think so, and can hardly imagining it, Black Square is actually an one man brand (this may change in the futur according what he has said in his interview he gave to JF) despite he s a hard worker he already announced working on a TBM overhaul with the 850 + a beechcraft B60 Duke and the Starship wich represent lot of work ! but who knows ? he s always amazing me

It makes sense that the company is indeed Asobo/Microsoft as Hans is now working with them in the ATR so maybe they got the Twotter so he can attend the ATR and the Twotter updates.
This is potentially quite bad for the CRJ if Hans is breaking ties with Aerosoft.
Either way this does not seem to be going to a bright future unless a team of devs do a complete takeover on those unipersonal projects.

Don’t forget how Aerosoft stop improving Simple Traffic .
The A330 will be the nail in the coffin if this aircraft goes bad for them.
We will have to see.

My dream: Asobo is introducing proper handling of turboprobs and beta range and is going to showcase this with a very advanced Twotter (including sounds!) that will be free to all of us. Let’s see.

I wonder if something about the Twotter will be announced by Jorg on the DEV Q&A stream next week?

Maybe MSFS took over the twotter and will re-release it with a world update. Emirates, maldives/indian ocean region would be my best guess. Skydiving version from dubai and floating version as an island hopper on the maldives.
Probably the best outcome for the twotter and its customers too.

Regarding aerosoft planes: the twotter has been the first and last plane i bought from them. I have a lot of patience and understanding for devs, but in this case I kept a very weird [diplomatic mode on] feeling after the release and sound update.
Not even starting on how they dealt with customers (including myself) on their forum when they try to adress issues or leave a critical note.
I wish them all the best and they probably made a great deal to sell it to another dev after making huge profit first.
But i hope ( i realy do) they will change their attitude and raise their bar again.
For the devs who took the twotter over… please turn this rough piece of stone into a diamond again. It certainly has the potential.
Dont let us down!
