I can’t link the post but it was from dutchsim010 on Apr 28. Try searching for dutchsim010 instead of Aerosoft.
That does NOT say it was sold to Microsoft. It said that it was sold to a third-party, which is all that we’ve known.
And you yourself said “If it is”, because no one knows. Everyone was speculating and throwing out ideas. Presenting speculation as fact is how rumors gets started.
But that user was just repeating an announcement from Aerosoft that they sold it to 3rd party. No word about MS/Asobo. Just speculations afterwards.
You were quicker ![]()
And here is the actual source (again):
The only things that we know for sure (according to AS) are:
- It has been withdrawn from sale
- It has been transferred from Aerosoft to another developer for later resale as a bundled package
- Existing product owners will not be expected to pay again for the re-released product.
Everything else is conjecture at this stage. Note however, some of the statements made allow for wide interpretation. It is an assumption, for example, that the new developer will do anything to the aircraft model: they may see it as a finished product that they wanted to acquire to go with a scenery project.
You can play the speculation game endlessly. All a bit of a waste of time IMO - we will see when we see. But I get that some folk enjoy the theorising. In fact, judging by the endless effort devoted to fan theories about, well, anything that has fans, I’m probably in a serious minority.
Kind of like we’re all sitting around the common, watching our cows chew their cud, don’t have a whole lot else to do, so might as well talk… ummm… stuff… ![]()
I‘m not sure about that part. The posting you linked to says
Aerosoft will not ask for a single penny for any future version
And in combination with that
It could mean that the new project owners very well could charge again for the Otter.
No problem as long as the new Twinotter is (more or less) study level and developed with much more love as the AS version.
My guess/hope is that Microsoft will release it as a “surprise” release. The quality and depth will be similar to what they did with the ATR.
Paid or free? Yeah, I’m not going to even go there.
But my guess above still stands ![]()
What are you going to do, or rather, how are you going to feel if it’s not “Study Level” (by whatever definition you have for that term)?
What in the world makes you think it’s going to be “Study Level” when it’s released again. There’s zero evidence of that, and the likelihood is extremely small. We’ve seen that “Expert Series” is not “Study Level”. I’m not knocking it, just stating the facts, I think the level of detail in it is great… #justsayin, I don’t get this discussion of how it’s assured it’s going to be “Study Level”. I don’t understand why anyone is expecting/hoping for this? At least not to the level of the “threats” people are making around it.
I mean, statements like ‘I hope it will be “Study Level”’ or ‘Maybe it will be “Study Level”?’ seem appropriate to me… but anything else… boggles me. And I have zero expectation it will be.
Yes, you are quite right. The statements from Aerosoft were ambiguous and open to interpretation - if AS are no longer selling it then of course they won’t be asking for any more money. But I don’t think that was the import of what Mattias was saying in his post.
So I reiterate my main point - it’s all speculation and like Jon Snow, we know nothing.
I would be happy if the engines don’t quit on me when the aux tank runs dry. In the Aerosoft incarnation, the position of the aux tank switches matter (even though it doesn’t in the real aircraft) while the fwd and aft boost pump switches don’t (even though it does in the real aircraft). It’s dumb. That the dumb things like that would be fixed should be a reasonable expectation.
Sorry, I didn’t claim it would be study-level. I merely expressed the hope that it will be study-level or something similar. Expert series like the ATR would also be quite sufficient, because then the Twotter would be light years better than it is now.
No one knows what’s coming, but we’re allowed to at least discuss it in this forum because that’s what it’s for.
Happy landings ![]()
You and I both…
Have a very similar mindset and approach.
You might be a long lost brother…![]()
I find it enough coping with the myriad facts without time for the cud-chewing as well!
Same here.
Don’t have the desire to entertain chewing of cud,
Nor appropriating my bandwidth to do it.
Too busy being solution oriented.
Wonder if the Twotter was bought out to be added in 2024.
probably not, aerosoft stated that we would never have to pay again for the mod
I think what was stated was that Aerosoft will never charge us more money for it; which was nonsensically obviously even when it was said.
Yeah, to be clear, Aerosoft won’t because they aren’t selling it anymore. That doesn’t preclude someone else charging for it, though.
