To that point, I’m gonna bet there are way more Twotters out there dropping skydivers than PC-12’s… sigh.
Nothing against Hans, I don’t really have much experience with his planes. But, from watching the streams and reading the boards on his planes, he seems like a pretty sloppy developer. I imagine because he likes to experiment, but, doesn’t really do it in a structured way.
CpMoustache modded it to fix some of its many issues, then uploaded this to flightsim.to. Aerosoft/Hans got wind of this, and threatened legal action if they were not removed, citing I believe, copyright infringement.
What was the copyright material being infringed? Amongst a few others, the “flight_model.cfg” file. A text file. A file that every plane has. So what was the actual content of this file being infringed? A value change. It was utterly ridiculous, heavy handed, and me personally I would have been glad to hire a lawyer to fight that, as I don’t believe it’s right, or even enforceable. Every modded plane out there works in a similar fashion, and no one else has complained.
I think the real reason for this was shame or embarrassment.
Briefly they were re-uploaded as I wrote a script to make binary diffs of the modded files. The binary diffs were re-uploaded, and another script was used to apply this to the original files, thus applying the modded values. This satisfied Aerosoft/Hans, and they remained up until that whole debacle with that site kicked off, and I removed them.
Yes, but that’s a bug. Same with the right main wheel not touching the ground. The new prop animation system in MSFS2024 is awesome. I would say the Aerosoft version had better visuals and of course more models and variants etc. But flight dynamics and engine handling are way better in MSFS2024. The Aerosoft version didn’t have working beta range and torque response was super slow.
Thanks, that’s good to know. inibuilds is a strange one to me because they obviously do some really great work. On the other hand, I’ve skipped over some of their other planes like the afore mentioned MU-2 and Skyvan because from what I can see in review videos, they look sloppy and lazy to me. I think it was the MU-2 that didn’t even have switch labels on the audio panel. That’s all getting a bit off topic though so I digress.
I wonder what has and what will become of the Aerosoft model then. It was so very nearly a decent plane. Just needed the flight model and sounds to be improved and it would have been a solid addon. I suppose the apparent state of Aerosoft doesn’t really inspire confidence that we’ll ever see their Twin Otter again.
The Aerosoft Twotter sounds were improved with a new sound pack, late but as promised coming in Nov 2022 with their 2nd last patch for it (v1.1.0) and then levels slightly tweaked in V1.1.1. It largely went unnoticed at the time because everyone had moved on by that time after complaining about it for so long. That sound pack hasn’t made it across to the new aircraft though as this new one doesn’t sound quite as good. I also haven’t tried the Aerosoft Twotter in FS2024 yet to check functionality.
I hadn’t heard about this, so thank you. Looks very interesting, although not tested in 2024 yet. Funny thing is the last thing I need at the moment is another aircraft. Lol. I may need to clone myself and buy another PC.
Its actually really good, you’ll enjoy it, go to flightsim.to and pick it up and go back to the retro msfs 2020
Fidelity is great and there is a air uk and jersey European livery…
Youll love it man, there is a manual in the download to read…
I loved flying the Twin Otter in 2020, but I would not recommend anyone buy or play MSFS 2024 at all. It is a huge step backwards from 2020 and there is not a single aspect of the game not inundated with thousands of bugs that should never have seen release.
I wont ever buy anything for this sim, maybe the Twin Otter will be flyable someday, but we did not pay for someday…
So I just tried the Aerosoft Twotter in fs 2024. It works, (for an short incomplete flight anyway) but I ended up giving up with it as there were some weird ground based? lighting effects being induced at nighttime see below.
What I did note tonight difference wise is -
The Aerosoft Twotter in fs2024
Looks nicer. The new one isn’t bad, but just not as nice.
No way to open it’s doors from outside so SHIFT+C was only way into cabin. (fair enough)
Sounds are at much better levels I think compared to new one which is WAY too quiet IMO. Maybe the sounds are ok, but they sound muffled like I have noise reduction headphones on. On takeooff and during flight the new Twotter sounds like an electric strimmer not a loud twin turboprop.
Has old ground steering physics so steers too easily. The new Twotter has better ground traction & stiffness & inertia while taxiing, but it is more prone to wings tipping over while steering it.
There were weird exterior ground/air based? lighting ‘effects’ induced with Aerosoft Twin Otter in fs2024 (I have no idea and can’t think why), but these were not seen on exact same flight with new Twotter -
The most annoying thing in fs2024 aircraft is trying to set up custom cameras. When I do so they don’t stick. Sadly this was the same for both old and new Twotters tonight. I could scream with this particular new fs2024 ‘feature’. In fs2020 I live on custom camera views (ALT+1,2,3 etc).
EDIT: new. I appear to have passengers teleported in all of a sudden in the new Twotter. I’m sure they weren’t there when I took off. Near freaked me out when I looked over my shoulder to see faces staring back at me! Lol.
Maybe, but i didn’t (as far as I know)have anything like that turned on. I was only at about 4000 ft here, but it was all happening below. It does look like that admittedly, but all curving in a particular direction. But only on the Aerosoft Twotter. I may try again and see if it may have been bound to some key that I accidentally pressed while trying to change views. The bindkeys are so messed up in 2024 that it isn’t funny.
Seeing that there is clearly huge demand for the twin otter and a high fidelity one at that, maybe we’ll see a reputable dev make one eventually. I’m disappointed to read the twotter in fs24 isnt good. I’m waiting a few months to jump into fs24 but there really isn’t much incentive right now. The twin otter being a miss by asobo is one of many big reason I’ll pass for now.
I purchased the Aerosoft Twotter through the marketplace on fs2020 when it was still for sale.
Other aircraft I purchased in the marketplace are available to use in fs2024 and show up in my list, but the Twotter does not. What are other people in this thread doing to import it?
I see… I really hope those of us who bought it in the marketplace have some way of accessing it.
Twotter is my favorite plane and its been a very bumpy and frustrating ride these past few years. All I want to do is fly cargo around the arctic circle
Is it pulled in 2020 too? No way to (re)download a purchased item from marketplace? I’d have thought that would be illegal having something you bought not available to download any more. I’m sure I could still install it via Aerosoft One if I had to, it’s just not for sale by Aerosoft any more. I’m guessing that even if you have the FS2020 version downloaded, the encryption might tie it to FS2020 so maybe it woud not function in FS2024 anyway Not sure though, but at least you could try it.
I uninstalled 2020 to make room for 2024 X3 it just feels very unfortunate. Very frustrating that it didnt come along like all the other marketplace purchases
Maybe some are actually being held like they are suposed to be to be approved by their devs first. Many add ons that step didn’t happen with and they appeared and were enabled without approval.
