Aerosoft Twin Otter baby!

Just updated

and now i have paused proppellers even with engine off!!!

Is that vanilla 1.0.5 or do you have any mods installed for it? Just want to rule that possibility out.

Still no audio update in this version?

I wouldn’t worry, Aerosoft will shout it from the rooftops when it arrives.

Only updates on that front are “soon” they’ll have the new recordings, and the first set has been done.

I would also like to add for anyone who uses RSG GNS units (or equivalent) and pops out the VC GNS screens, you can hit alt+enter after you move it to the proper screen to fullscreen it and get rid of the Windows toolbar.

Vanilla. Only mods I have is downloaded liveries but its even like that on the default liveries. You can see the propeller spinning when you switch on engine but it has that blurred look overlaid still.

BTW that was updated with the Aerosoft installer from Just Flight. I will uninstall and reinstall and see if it persists.

Please give us an update after your uninstall/reinstall cycle. I’ve seen those “frozen props” in the sim before going back to like SU6 or maybe SU5, on like the Baron or the freeware Goose. Sad to see it show up with an update to the TwOtter.

I have updated today and don’t see that prop issue.

Still the same after reinstall unfortunately. Cleared out the original and reinstalled fully. Big shame and its my favourite to fly.

How did you update? Aerosoft installer?

I might go and check some sceneries i added earlier.

I updated with the Aerosoft installer and don’t have this issue. Maybe it is an issue with the new version and the livery?

So for you guys who are saying you aren’t seeing it, are you at least seeing the props rotating after engine shutdown?

I’ve seen with other planes if you have strong winds, the props will continue to rotate even after shutdown. I’ve never seen it fast enough to “spawn” the prop disk before, but it might be worthwhile to see if anyone sees the props spinning in the wind without the prop disk as maybe that’s where the problem is.

For what it’s worth I shut down engines tonight and the props stopped spinning as expected in EGPF tonight there was some wind about too. Latest update tonight via AS One installer, but modded the sound again afterwards.

Yes it was.

Im doing some testing now. i put in 5 sceneries after updating.

So wasnt any sceneries. Im removing the liveries i have now although to be fair the last version had no problems with them. I flew the twin otter this lunchtime so i know everything was working up until late this afternoon when i updated.

Comparing the 1.0.4.0, and 1.0.5.0 “DHC6_300_Exterior.xml” files, there is a large chunk of data missing which describes the propellors.

There are 46 lines in 1.0.4.0, and only 3 in 1.0.5.0. The latest version seems to use a custom template for the props, and not Asobo code.

How this works in practise I have no idea.

After a fresh install of 1.0.5.0:

Engines off

Engines running

Engines off again

I didn’t see any prop glitches with the default plane.

Thanks for checking. I havent been able to get any change out of it so have had to uninstall.

Dont know whats causing it. All i know is that 1.4 was working fine earlier today. Is there a sync button in the aerosoft installer do you know?

I installed the 1.0.5 update this afternoon and tested both the 3-blade prop and 4-blade prop and didn’t see any issues. Started the engines, stopped one engine, feathered the prop on the stopped engine, restarted, etc. Then took the four-blade prop version on a five minute flight, landed, taxied and shut down one engine at a time and waited for each engine to spin down. No problems here.

Ironically, I did see that superimposed spinning/stopped prop effect on an example of the freeware Grumman Goose that was spawned by the sim at my destination airfield. Get close enough and the props are rendered correctly. Get just far enough away and the prop disc shows (and the wheels are retracted at the same time). Move closer and everything is fine. That is a “model LOD (limit of distance)” issue, I think, and it appears limited to specific models for me.

So if it’s happening with the Twin Otter for you, I wonder if you have a corrupted file somewhere in the installation? Or some setting or mod which affects view distance?
