After 1.9.5

After updating to 1.9.5.0 now it takes MSFS 15 minutes to load. Anyone else having this problem? Any known solutions? Thanks

It still takes about 3 minutes for me so it appears it’s not the patch anyway.

Have you the required download speed and sufficiently defragged disk space to give it room to breathe?

Did you install any custom scenery? It can significantly increase loading time.

I have over 100GB installed and I haven’t noticed any slowdown, so I don’t think it’s the amount of it. Perhaps some of it’s buggy thus making the loader pass over it multiple times before reading it in.

Your issue isn’t the patch, but the add-ons you have installed.

For those mentioning gigabytes, the size of the folder is not where the issue is. The issue is that there’s a metric ton of files the sim has to sift through. Ripped google photogrammetry data is especially heavy in the number of files it generates.

If I kept all the freeware addons I have downloaded in the community folder, the sim would have to sift through 1.736 MILLION files in 12,652 folders before launch. Before I decided to do something about it, my load times was over 20 minutes despite having a blazing fast Seagate Firecuda 520 Gen 4 NVMe SSD.

That being said, there is a solution albeit a bit laborious.

Download your freeware addons in a completely separate folder and put them in several subfolders, one per nation. Also, rename the folder of each addon with a “COUNTRYNAME_” at the beginning, for instance I have “JAPAN_nagoya.” Addons will work regardless of what you name their main folder.

Before each flight (and before you start up the sim), copy only the content of the national folders of the countries you’re flying over in the Community folder. Then, after the flight, remove all the folders with that nation’s name, keeping it clean.

It helps a lot in keeping the startup quick and your addon downloads organized in a semi-sane way. With this, even with the countries with the most addons installed, my loading times are never over a minute as opposed to 20+ I had before I decided to organize them this way and keep the folder clean.

Its exactly the same time for loading for me as it was before.

2 minutes before . . . 2 minutes after. But I only have a handful of addons.

I haven’t got any extra files but clearly your advice is sensible for those who do. But what a Ball-ache of a procedure to have to go through EVERY TIME! Is this the best solution the Microsobo will be able to offer us?

I hope he has an SDD and not HDD.

There is a tool (forgot the name, google is your friend) that let’s you quickly enable disable addons (through softlinks).

Wiht it you can quickly enable just the sceneries (which go to the addon folder) you need for the flight

Yes.

I’m not sure a solution exists on their end, at at least depending on what kind of add-ons you use.

most of user-made add-ons are photogrammetry data ripped from google and just dropped on the sim as-is. This generates a TON of files.

For instance, the addon that imports the small city of Pietrasanta in Italy (just over 20,000 souls) has 61,223 files (yes, that’s 61 THOUSAND). I better not tell you the size of bigger cities like European capitals, because that’d give you nightmares.

This is also a very good workaround unless someone prefers to do things manually as I do.

Remember brother, your game working does not mean everybody’s game is working. I need to write a post to explain what is a bug and what is not, so we can help each other in a better way. Nobody will read it but I will make the try.

it’s not the patch anyway

This might still apply, but the first statement is important when helping others.

Cheers

I wish i enjoyed getting into the weeds but I just don’t and I’m no good at it, even to the extent of being confident about moving files around. I’d probably get more out of the sim if I were, but will have to be content as a “casual simmer” I guess!

Masochist

It’s more that if something breaks, I know where to put my hands. I really, really don’t wanna risk having to do things from scratch. :joy:

You can put your addons folder where ever you want. The tool is linking to the community folder. Yes, you can do it also yourself, but you can see also version, developer etc. as long as the information is available. Nothing to worry about.

Solved my problem, it was that Bucharest add on I had installed from flightsim.to

A single addon did that?

Yep, as soon as I deleted it everything was ok
