Are you on Steam or Microsoft Store version?
Microsoft Store
Brief description of the issue:
Several months ago, I uninstalled Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and every other Xbox/Microsoft Store related application via Revo Uninstaller. I have since reinstalled it and every time I launch it, it prompts me to fill in settings as if I had just installed the game. None of my settings, flight logs or other progress carries over after I shut down the game. Multiplayer, Air Traffic, and Weather & Time settings are stuck, if I attempt to change it, it reverts in 10 seconds or less.
Detail steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
Uninstall Microsoft Flight Simulator via Revo Uninstaller
Uncheck “Make a System Restore Point before uninstall”
Make an Advanced scan for leftover files, folders, and registry items
Delete all registry items, leftover files, and folders
Repeat the same for all Xbox/Microsoft related Windows apps (I know, big oopsie
)
Your settings are kept “in the cloud” and should be restored with a re-install.
Leave Revo alone, and try using the default windows re-install for MSFS.
I’ve reinstalled MSFS many times to no avail.
these kind of ( most useless ) uninstallers do a lot of stuff… In case you have still installed these tool, just try to uninstall, at least not use features like tracing of it , etc. and check about possible running background services. Only then you can be sure that nothing is caused from these tool.
After usage of these uninstaller, may be the folder where msfs tried to store the user-files becomes now corrupt, or possible write protected. You can try to start the game as admin or you have to un-install the msfs and clean up all existing folders as the FAQ describes : https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016107019-Microsoft-Store-version-How-to-repair-or-remove-and-do-a-clean-install-of-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator
But these “reverts in 10 seconds” sound a bit strange… may be these uninstaller made some other things corrupt (e.g. while you removed other apps)… possible is of cours a completly other reason, its hard to find out. You can also try to repair the game-store, etc…

Yes, my concern is, have you done so without using Revo?

Yes, I’ve done the instructions provided above by @MichaMMA as well.

Are you running MSFS as an administrator?
I’m wondering if there is a security issue here.

thats what I had in mind too… we had some cases where users “done some things” and the folders becomes write protected. For some users it was fixed in way that they start the game one time as admin, but for some others they have to completly re-install and remove folders manually which are left after deinstalltion.

I reinstalled MSFS 2020 from scratch again. I made sure to remove all files when I uninstalled. I ran it as administrator this time around and still no dice. I wonder if there’s some dependency that I’m missing.
I doubt if it’s a dependency.
The sim won’t install if everything isn’t there.
Did you at any time ever change user names, or have you installed this elsewhere?
Never for either question. It’s probably just wishful thinking but I wonder if I bought another hard drive and installed it there if my issue will solve itself.
you can check whether some local config files are updated ( e.g. the timestamp of file ) if you change some settings. As example the UserConf file should be changed in case you change settings like LOD, etc…
What I have in mind about Installing the game to another drive as C: is, that only the content is installed on the other drive… “AppData” folders/files are on same location…
PS: and to be sure… sometime there happen strange things in case your local-time is out of sync. May double check the local-time is correct set.
