After I updated the sim I ran an off line scan with Windows defender and A hacktool was blocked. it won’t remove it any one else has this issue?
Just ran the Windows Offline Scan, checked results and got the same!! Thanks for the head’s up. Hope someone addresses this soon.
That file is a legitimate Windows file and part of the Windows Operating System.
It’s used for Key Management Service (KMS) Licensing for Microsoft Products and installed with Windows File Protection (WFP) enabled.
I would imagine that Windows Defender is showing this as a false positive. First assure your Windows Defender definitions are current. If they are, might be best to contact Microsoft as this doesn’t have anything to do with MSFS.
Microsoft Defender appears to have a few issues with false-positives recently.
They can run the Microsoft Security Scanner for extra reassurance. Please follow this link, the application is a stand-alone executable and does not require installing.
Charles.
thanks for the reply.
since this post I have searched the web and Microsoft and I can’t find an answer.
Can you provide a link that will assure me tell me that this hack toolwin32 is purposely placed there by Microsoft?
I Would Also have to say that you aren’t a Microsoft tech. answering with the phrase. I would imagine that Windows Defender is showing this as a false positive. your not sure of your self.
thanks Charles for the reply
I tried that but it comes back.
Thus why I wrote:
Microsoft is responsible for Windows Defender definitions.
thanks for the reply. I know now it has nothing to do directly with f.s. but that’s when I noticed it.
I wanted to see if anyone else saw this and has the same problem. but after posting and resaerching thousands of people seem to have the same issue.
thanks again.
Here’s what Microsoft has to say about this.
In short: “Hacktools can be used to patch or “crack” some software so it will run without a valid license or genuine product key.”
NEXT STEP…
If you have not done so already, download and install the freeware version of Bitdefender and let us know if the problem still persists. RUN FULL SYSTEM SCAN!
Bitdefender will not clash with your Microsoft Defender.
Charles.
a note: many AV-providers offers an online file check, where you can upload the file for a check.
So its not necessary to install software which cause possible new kind of trouble ( in special bitdefender )
As example: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload
Hi Micha, Bitdefender should not cause any problems, I think it compliments Windows Defender on my system. Some parts of Win Defender still remain active. The advantage: Bitdefender will watch his system and provide full cover and watch the system until he either decides to keep the AV or remove it. Bitdefender does not interfere with MSFS and should not degrade it’s performance. There is always a possibility that there may be another virus lurking in the background too. I hope this is just a false-positive.
Charles.
oh trust me, I remember at least on real epic topic where the BD was at the end the bad boy
But yes, generally it should work. The point was more to avoid to install additional software, if these one file can checked “online”.
There are also possibilities to scan the whole system on-line with some AV products too. This would also negate installing another AV. Norton was one of these AV providers that had this capability. I would never install Norton on my system, it used to leave too many files/folders behind after uninstall. BD is easy to uninstall.
Charles.
but often these so called “Fullscan-Online-Scanners” , install a piece of software on your PC. And yes to “never Norton”
Yes they do ask you to download an executable to gain access to ones system, not keen on that idea!
Charles.
There’s nothing wrong with installing Bitdefender or Malwarebytes in an MSFS computer.
Just disable real-time scanning and use it for system scans.
You can generally create exceptions (programs the software won’t scan in real-time, but to me that’s more trouble than it’s worth - especially if MS Defender is your only real-time scanner.
Different anti-malware platforms have different definition lists, and use different heuristic detection algorithms. It’s never a bad idea to use more than one for full system scans.
