AI ATC - Integrate Beyond ATC Directly into MSFS

As I’m sure you’re aware, Beyond ATC looks to revolutionize the ATC experience in MSFS.

Has Microsoft/Asobo considered scrapping the built-in ATC system and incorporating Beyond ATC directly into the simulator?

If not, Microsoft should seriously consider bringing the Beyond ATC development team aboard much like they have done with Working Title.

I’d rather they would partner with Beyond ATC in every way possible (API,SDK etc.) to achieve the best possible result but let Beyond ATC stay independent from MS/Asobo management and have their own income stream. Personally, if it works as communicated so far, I’d shell out $69 for it without hesitation.

Xbox users (not one myself) also benefit from such a thing. An option to switch between the two, much like the legacy flight model, would cater to everyone’s tastes… running before I can walk, yes.

Quickest vote I’ve ever cast.

That’s a great point! I hadn’t thought about the benefit it would provide to XBOX users as well.

It might also allow MS/Asobo to focus resources elsewhere rather than spending additional time/money on the built-in ATC.

If Beyond ATC lives up to the promise I’ve seen in the videos, I would even be willing to purchase a separate MSFS 2024 SKU geared for the hardcore simulation audience. One that had Beyond ATC integrated, collision detection between aircraft, no spawning on the runway/hold short line, and things like that.

Imagine if they could integrate it into a built-in voice system where we could all be talking to and hear the same ATC calls along with each other’s ATC comms. Icing on the cake…we all see the exact same AI aircraft within our simulators (all controlled frame-by-frame by Beyond ATC) so we’re all participating in a truly shared world.

Assuming your talking about something on top of the Standard, Deluxe, Deluxe Premium?

Maybe something akin to: Deluxe Premium XL.

LOL - whatever they wanna call it - if it had the features above - they could shut up and take my money!

Personally I think it’s too early to be considering this, I’d prefer to see it up and running as a third-party addon. BATC developers have already almost finished a complete rewrite and, although I’m no programmer, I’m pretty sure it would need yet another rewrite to incorporate it directly into the sim. I use a number of other addons which work perfectly well outside the sim and see no reason why BATC should be any different. With a member of an already successful third party development team on board why would it?

No, not going to vote for this, in fact I’d vote AGAINST it if there were an option.

  loving that

Too funny!

Absolutely correct. Keep it third party, please, please do not let Asobo get involved in any way!

Think about it. They (Asobo) have been getting LIVE position and heading data from FR24 and after 4 years still have planes arriving and departing from opposite ends of the same runway. Do you REALY want them involved with BATC?

Beyond ATC isn’t out and it will also be a payware… not sure how that will work out

I this is a great idea. I have always found the Asobo ATC pretty poor and now use FS Hud all the time. Beyond ATC looks like the game changer we’ve all been waiting for IF it lives up to its promise. Why not buy them out and integrate it ?- This is often how larger software companies move on in my experience.

Personal Comments and Observations

Until they can show they can work with Live Traffic, I wouldn’t want this product integrated.

Please implement a proper Gen AI ATC with natural speech to the sim. Microsoft Copilot has proven extremely useful in productivity tasks, and it would be incredible as ATC in MSFS.

But it should be intelligently integrated to the sim where it can properly direct and manage traffic and even respond to unexpected and emergency situations, such as directing traffic to another runway or airport in the event of an emergency landing.

It should also be able to detect and manage third party traffic products.

Proper ATC would take the immersion to the next level.

They’ve already starting putting Ai in phones, so it can’t be that difficult

I’m unclear how that’s related. We’re not talking about scalability or portability - it’s about taking two distinct components - AI Traffic (which has ties to Live Weather and Flight Planning - one could argue they can’t be completely uncoupled from each other) and ATC injected from another source.

Isn’t ATC a form of Ai? Or scripted?
Edit: ATC is buggy so scratch that
