I discovered that option only recently, but really enjoyed it. By setting the wing view and letting the AI control my flights from start to finish I got an actual feeling of being a passenger on the flight. Of course, not every time the AI worked as excepted - but most of the time it was a really good job.
Now, when it comes to this option for the 3rd party aircraft it seems that they don’t care about including it; FBW and Aerosoft to name a few. They say that they aircraft is supposed to be a study level aircraft, and there is no need for such a “toy”. But sometimes all I want is to fly some routes as a passenger and not bothering so much with the controls.
Are there any decent 3rd party aircraft that allows you to select the AI control?
I don’t know if you’ve got a headset, but in VR it’s so much better. You really can be a passenger.
I sometimes move my viewpoint to one of the back seats… and let the copilot take the controls (not always a good idea LOL) then enjoy the ride, like this for example…
As for third party aircraft, I think most (if not all) can be controlled by the AI, just not always very well.
Enable the autopilot then - how? Study the aircraft manuals
UPDATE: On a more serious note: FWB are working hard on their autopilot implementation! Their proclaimed goal (*) is that the A320neo autopilot will be able to fully land the airplane, until it comes to a stop.
(*) to my knowledge that feature is already available in some „experimental“ (?) version. The 0.6 version which is (IIRC) in the ingame marketplace does not have that „autolanding“ feature just yet.
