Take off with AI (to make it easy) then turn off AI to fly around and sight-see. The controller will no longer interact with the plane.
Take off manually using controller (proves it works), switch to AI once in the air and then AI off. The controller no longer interacts with the plane.

+++ IT FIXED ITSELF +++
Three times I loaded FS after the update to see if I could figure something out. The fourth time I noticed that the opening screen showed the USA Update screen with images of updated content that came with the original I started with from Steam a week ago.
This time the AI On/Off and controller working started to work. Prior to my new test I did go to the Controller section and press some keys to make sure the controller was still recongnised.
I then started another flight expecting the same bug but mysteriously it had reverted to working. So, now it works.
I wonder if it was some software caching issue of old code and new code until it did a proper load.
Hi, I also have a Saitek gamepad and until the last update it was working perfectly.
However, since the update MSFS will not launch if the gamepad is connected. It’ll get to the USA pictures… Mount Rushmore etc… the music stutters for a second… & then back to desktop. This happens everytime.
If I unplug the gamepad… MSFS launches and will run as normal. If I then plug in the gamepad… it CTD’s within a second or two.
The gamepad is fine within Windows. I can calibrate it and there are no problems. It’s just MSFS that doesn’t like it since the update.
Edit: I’ve tried several things over the last week or two… from trying different usb sockets… calibrating… even reinstalling MSFS.
After posting this… I plugged an old joystick in. This is an old game port joystick, along with a gameport-usb adapter. Very strange but this was detected no problem & sort of worked, but not brilliantly. I unplugged it and thought I’d have another go with the Saitek gamepad, connecting it while in (world map) screen of MSFS.
No CTD this time! It said a new device had been detected & it’s even still got my drone camera settings!
I’ve no idea why, but it’s working again
I don’t have a solution for you. However, I discovered that if I start in AI and then switch to manual, and if the pad doesn’t work all I have to do is invoke live pause, un-pause and the pad works.
Hi, thanks for the info. In my case MSFS was crashing as soon I plugged the gamepad in, or if I plugged it in first, MSFS would crash on launch… but for some reason it appears to be working now
Not sure why as I’d hasn’t worked for two weeks, despite me trying loads of things.
