if all went right, you will see the new models in 99% of the cases when using Live AI.
Wouldn’t have gone “all in” like that as it’s a bit of waste (more efficent to just choose the predominate ones to where you fly).
To me, one of the most important things is seeing the appropriate airlines (liveries) at the correct location. I mostly fly in US and find it distracting to see foreign airlines at my local airports since they wouldn’t ever be there in real life.
But to each their own.
Yeah, I cancelled the entire installation and just pick the ones that have destinations to my main airport. And the Live AI traffic all using the correct models and liveries. So I’m pretty happy with it. Of course, the parking spots are randomly placed when using the Ground Aircraft slider. But I don’t mind it for now.
Yeah, I think the problem wasn’t about the waste of time, but most times it gets stuck installing a particular airline without me knowing due to the PC being left unattended, so I did lose quite some time on this. So I’ll just do them in batches. Focusing on the airlines that has destination to my main airport hub, both domestic and international. And I’ll probably end up just installing the main airlines that belong to any of the three alliance groups.
But so far, I’m pretty happy with it. FPS is good, the traffic looks good. I can finally ditch the Aerosoft Simple Traffic addon.
I still have no traffic in route… NEVER ![]()
I think this could work if the MSFS SDK or the engine is improved to take the ATC_ParkingCode field into account.
I went through the AIG aircraft.cfg file, and I’m very impressed by how thorough they are. ATC_ParkingCode is already set to their ICAO airline code, and their Parking Type are also correctly Assigned such as Cargo liveries should only appear on CARGO or RAMP parking type.
There are a few things I disagree such as a CRJ or ATR to have the GATE,RAMP Parking type, making them appear on large gates with jetways. I would be happier if they just remove the GATE type so they don’t appear in them. But I’ll probably manually change this as I need.
That being said, if the MSFS SDK allows to assign and read the ATC_ParkingCode, that would solve the issue of seeing aircraft parking in the wrong place. But this needs massive airport data changes for every single parking spot. For example:
Gate 1 ATC_ParkingCode=GIA,LNI,SIA,KLM
Gate 2 ATC_ParkingCode=GIA
Then only GIA would spawn on Gate 2, while Gate 1 can be randomly select any of these four liveries to spawn.
If every airport parking/gate data has a complete airline ICAO code that can be parked on them. The engine can do the matching and will place the correct airline at the correct gate, regardless of how many airline liveries you have in your library.
And it could have some form of control for scenery developers to place which terminals will have which airlines. They can group them together in the same terminal, or that international airlines will always spawn in the international terminal, etc.
The potential is there, and AIG has done a great job in preparing for this with their correct data assignments. We just need the MSFS SDK and the Airport data to be able to “match” each other and spawn the correct airline at the correct spot.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with it, and I’m using AIG from now on… (Why am I late to jump on the AIG bandwagon… lol)
Except if you decide to explore other parts of the world, it’s super-cool to see new airlines you’ve never even heard of. So I just patiently installed everything. A bit of a pain due to the planes that required manual input, but the end result of one evening of annoying process is a super-cool collection of AI throughout the world.
You can still skip the manual installation in the OCI right?
Hit CTRL+A to select all flight plans, skip manual installation, let it run overnight. The next day let it run again and do the manual downloads in one shot.
If you look at AIG’s home page, you can see some analysis on the poor state of Ai parking in the game:

Interestingly, there are some mods trying to at least get parking codes fixed (with mixed success IMO):
Hmm… interesting, thank you for the links.
I think a couple of these still rely on the Traffic controllers to inject the AI traffic to the gates. But I can’t be sure. I’ll try the first mod and see if that works just by using the default Ground Aircraft sliders and live traffic.
Sadly my main airport is already payware and it’s dependant on the developers efforts to make it AIG compatible. Not that it doesn’t, I mean the Binersim WIII payware airport have all the AIG airlines spawn correctly at the correct gates and ramp sizes. But the airlines are still randomly placed due to just how the Ground Aircraft Slider works. And Binersim’s WIII airport is Marketplace exclusive, so the contents are encrypted and can’t really do anything with them. So it’s highly dependent on the developers to make the parking updates. Which I think is unlikely.
But I’ll give the OMDB one a go, if this works with the default ground aircraft slider and live traffic modes. Then it’s actually “technically” possible. So I can actually propose this to the developer. Thanks again.
Just wondering what textures are most people using? I see the option to use the 2k textures but I have yet to try it out. If anyone is using it, what performance impact does it have?
I use the 2K textures but the addon is CPU bound. My 10700k can’t even handle it on 50% slider.
AIG TC just tells the Sim to spawn an airplane, it has sadly no influence on where at the airport the airplane is parked…
Would not be the first developer to add AI-Support in an update, so just tell them what they need to fix or where to look to understand how AI at airports work.
Texturesize has only an ipact on GPU/VRAM usage. The CPU only needs to handle the AI logic of the Sim^^
I get the impression that a number of payware and freeware airport developers do not know how AI works at airports.
So bearing in mind that most of us are users and not developers and have very little if any understanding of how all this AI stuff works under the hood, where do we tell them to look for the information and how do we know what to tell them that needs fixing?
over at AIG we have some guides on how to create airports and actual have cross checked some of the default airports of MSFS against these basic rules. A scenery developer should be able to use them and update accordingly.
And then there are always two other options:
- Ask other developers or the AIG community
- Install a basic AI Setup by AIG to test
Same here. So I tried the setting “real life air traffic” and not using AIG’s Traffic Controller. This really made TCAS come alive en route. Also much more dep/arr. and better performance. Downside: some planes on the ground have that awful default MS livery again, and strange airlines appear at airports.
I am aware of that but the 2k textures has no impact on my gpu’s vram. That is why I mentioned the addon being CPU bound.Trust me I know the difference between the two ![]()
there are only a few 4k textures in use at the moment (A330 Model)
Perhaps you should ask MS/Asobo…it’s their issue (and has been for nearly 2 years now)?
