Air Journey World Tour [Complete]: Leg 21 - Anchorage AK, USA to Ketchikan AK, USA to Seattle, WA USA

Leg 8 Interlude - Abu Dhabi and Dubai!

Includes the Burj Al Khalifa hotel as featured in the movie Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Leg 9A - Dubai, UAE to Ahmadabad India (Technical Stop and Crew Rest)

Departed wondrous Dubai on an early AM flight for a change, we’ll be chasing the darkness headed East.

Crossing over the Emirates peninsula jutting out into the Gufl, we’re feet wet just north of Fujairah and enter the Gulf of Oman

It is inky black out in the Gulf of Oman - darkness punctuated by occasional bursts of heat lightning in the distance.

We cruise past the coastlines of Iran and Pakistan - it’s really quite dark - even populous areas like the port town of Chabahar is dimly lit.

Landfall in Gujarat Province, India

The bright sprawling lights of Ahmadabad mark our destination

We safely arrive - time for a crew rest and refuel, then we’re on our way to Jaipur

Leg 9 Interlude - A brief tour of India: The Taj Mahal, Lotus Temple and Dhamek Stupa

Leg 10: Jaipur, India to Paro, Bhutan

Early morning launch out of Jaipur headed to Paro.

We’re at max service ceiling FL310, and yes, that is the top of Mount Everest sticking out of the cloudbase at FL280. Wow!

Headed into the approach pattern to Paro and of course, the cloudbase is obscuring - now it gets tricky - with mountains all around, the AP cannot keep up with the turns required - time for some good old fashioned hand-flying but respect the minimum altitudes at the fixes.

Break out at about 9,000 - whew - now to navigate the tricky zig-zag to Runway 33.

Paro is a very picturesque airport, but at 7,000 MSL, high performance planes are the only ones that can make it into this field.

Leg 10 Interlude - Potala Palace, Lhasa Tibet

Leg 11: Paro, Bhutan to Chiang Mai, Thailand

After a delay (IRL waiting for things to settle out with the G3000 between v0.5.1 and v0.6.1), we’re back on track!

Note to future travelers - Paro airport in Bhutan:

  1. Does not have an ATIS/AWOS - in real life you would need to contact the nearest weather station by HF radio or land-line telephone - obviously not options in the sim.
  2. Feels real short for a Longitude T/O; I saw the piano keys on the other end of the runway and I had just barely cleared Vr.

Paro Bhutan (VQPR) to Chiang Mai, Thailand (VTCC) - 750nm or so.

Leg 11 Interlude: Wat Pho, Thailand and Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Leg 12 - Chiang Mai, Thailand to Luang Prabang, Laos

High and Hot in the hills of Laos. RNAV never kicked in, and it was all minimum speed maneuvering during the approach.

Thanks for highlighting this.

Wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing this.

Leg 13: Luang Prabang, Laos (VLLB) to Siam Reap. Cambodia (VDSR) , to Singapore (WSSL)

A long way down, and the tops of the bad weather extended above FL440. Tough penetration into cloud and rain on the approach, but we broke out into some clear patches, and a double rainbow.

Leg 13 Interlude: Singapore!

Leg 14: Singapore to Jakarta, Indonesia - not even Lightning can keep up with the Vertigo on this leg.
