Airbus A310 autopilot help

Hi all,

I could do with some help understanding the autopilot on the new Airbus A310. I have followed tutorial videos but I must be doing something wrong. I am following all the instructions. I complete the checklists as required etc, input all the flight level into the altitude section but when I am climbing out, I turn on the autopilot and the plane goes into a steep climb and eventual stall. When I try and press the NAV and profile switches, they go on then straight back off. The tutorials I have watched allow them to press just underneath the altitude and V/S switches but my sim doesn’t give me that option. Instead, in order to press the switch, I have to do it like the A320 where I left click and then press the scroll wheel. I do this, turn the autopilot on but still no luck. As I said, I try and press the NAV and profile switches but they go straight back off.

Can someone please guide me and tell me what I am doing wrong or need to do.

Kind regards.

Is the AP on? The AP 1 and 2 switches are over towards the 1st officer side.

Yes. AP 1 is on

OK. Sorry, but the usual suspects need to be discussed first.

Next thing is make sure all assistance options are turned off. According to reports, if any assistance is on, it has caused issues.

  1. Open the General Options screen, go to the Accessibility page and change Cockpit Interaction System from Lock to Legacy. This will allow you to interact with the knobs in the same way they do in the videos.
  2. Did you set all three IRS knobs to NAV?
  3. After doing step 2, did you press ALIGN IRS in the INIT A screen of the FMS?
