Aircraft Streaming...WHY?

So I’m just going to put this bluntly. Streaming aircraft into MSFS 2024 is a bad idea imo. Okay streaming the world data, scenery etc, I get that and I totally understand. But streaming aircraft??? I’m not quite sure as to why this decision was made. I have just loaded into the A400M and have been sat on the ground waiting for 20 minutes just to see if any textures would load, but I’m still out of luck. Some of the decals on the aircraft are failing to load properly, along with the ground textures of the airfield. Not only that, but labels are failing to load properly, but are instead just some blurry blobs of nonsense that nobody could even read. There was also an instance where I tried to load into the MXS-R last night, however the aircraft wouldn’t even load and I was just stuck with a floating pilot sitting down on the runway.

Now my questions to the developers are; Why did you choose to have aircraft streamed from a server? When are we able to download these assets locally so we don’t have to deal with stuff like textures not loading etc?

May I just add as well, we’re talking about a Flight Simulator that has to handle millions of users using the servers at the same time…not a FiveM server with 10-20 people on per night…

I’m sorry but aircraft streaming should have never been implemented…

Check out today’s flightdeck2sim stream. From just a few minutes ago:

Yeah, aircraft streaming isn’t working very well, lol.

Because cloud gaming is the future!

I agree that the implementation is flawed and there should at least be (or maybe there is, didn’t have time yet to dive into the menu) an option to pre-load an aircraft.

But the idea was (I think) to avoid all the hassle around updates and having to download everything. If you fly only a handful of aircraft it doesn’t make sense to download them all and keep them all up to date with every update.

at least the cockpit cell should be stored completely locally for each plane

To be honest, I would rather have to download a bunch of assets locally than to have them streamed all the time, but I do get where you are coming from…you’d expect there to be some sort of way to download the streamed assets though wouldn’t you haha. The implementation of this feature is more than flawed I think and I think there should have been way more testing taking place with this. Imo, this idea should have never made it into a production build of this sim in the state that it’s in

I’m happy about it as a design choice. My 2020 install was over 500GB and growing, just absolutely ridiculous when I only really fly a handful of planes regularly (but want access to my whole library).

Were we not supposed to have an option? I remember in one of the MP streams it said you could download or stream the planes, so why can’t I download the base sim planes? I have storage.

Yes, the instructor said that the aircraft had a glass cockpit.

It’s fine guy, I’ve sent in a REALLY detailed bug report…

Hmmm could it be because the marketplace is not running yet? So we only have streaming as an option right now? Perhaps?

Himmel hilf! Man hat etwas gemacht ohne zu wissen, ob es funktioniert.
In der Zentrale, LAN-Kabel zum Server - geht schon. In der Praxis VÖLLIGER MURKS!

Liebes Asobo-Team: Ihr habt hier ********* ANGESTELLT

Heaven help! You did something without knowing if it would work.
In the control center, LAN cable to the server - it’s fine. In practice, COMPLETE MESS!

Dear Asobo team: You have DONE A LOT OF ********* here

Unrelated. The marketplace will just affect the airplanes you have available to stream. The principle will be the same.

If anything airplanes bought from 3rd parties (and put into the community folder) should be fine (asset wise).

To be fair it sometimes works. I did 2 short tests today and once it worked and the other time it didn’t.
Didn’t see any visual difference compared to 2020 though and the airplane was still doing strange dances on the runway.

The basic idea is that local hardware & cloud will deliver better overall performance than the local hardware on it’s own which is no doubt right.

I’m sure that if the delivery from the cloud right now was as expected or experienced during testing then we wouldn’t be moaning.

As a Gamepass user I’d have to agree that it would’ve been wiser to restrict access to purchasers, I’m sure there are many Gamepass users who have seen a new ‘free’ game and lots of hype like myself on occasion, downloaded & played it for a few days then deleted it which is putting the infrastructure under unexpected stress.

The future from what I’ve seen is even more of a hybrid model of hardware & cloud, it reduces hardware requirements & therefore costs - so streaming is definitely here to stay IMHO.

streaming everything to me personally will never work. I live in rural spain and we were told that there was no way ever that we would get fibre optic internet. I have to live with a 40 to 50 mb/s speed.
I might as well give up on ms2024 and get a refund.

Okay so I have a somewhat temporary workaround for aircraft not loading properly…when you select your aircraft, click on “Configure” and this will load the aircraft up in the config menu. That way, the aircraft is then “pre-loaded” without having to load into an actual flight. This has worked for me and hopefully it works for other people.
