Airports included in World Update VIII Iberia

Have put mine in. No problems with any of them from a loadability standpoint. Haven’t noticed any anomalies. I made sure not to install Asobo’s LECO since I have the TDM one.

I did it too at the beginning, only to discover that traffic was floating above the runway and apron… looks like they changed some levels, and now TDM scenery is just a few feet below the true level…

I’ll fly from there next and check it out more closely to see if I see the same.

For those who are keen to keep existing 3rd party add ons rather than the new handcrafted airports released with World Update 8, there is a way on the PC to “disable” the airports without uninstalling them from the in game content manager.

There is a file called Content.xml that tells MSFS which packages to load and it is editable using a text editor. Its location for MS Store users is:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\

and for steam users (I think)

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\

At the end of each entry in Content.xml there is a “true” or “false” setting that determines whether or not the package will be “activated” in MSFS. Changing the relevant airport package from “true” to “false” will allow 3rd party airports to work and at the same time preserve the integrity of the MSFS downloaded content, if this is the way you wish to disable these airports. The advantage of this approach is that all the assets that come with these world update airports are still available in MSFS without the airport itself being displayed.

As an example, I use a purchased 3rd party airport for Zurich, which also came as a free handcrafted airport in WU6. My Content.xml entry for this package looks like:

Yes, but. If I try to use the third party airport, in my case TDM’s LECO, I see all other users’ planes floating in the air…. which does not precisely add realism to the whole experience

Sounds good especially as there is no payware Faro for Xbox simmers. :laughing:

Lucky you :wink:

Yeah. I can see this becoming a BIG issue !!! This hobby is expensive enough without spending needlessly on something we may not need.

The BIG questions;
WHY DID Asobo CHOOSE 4 AIRPORTS THAT ARE ALREADY THIRD PARTY ???
HOW ARE WE GOING TO KNOW THAT THESE ARE DOUBLED AND WHICH ONE IS BEST ???

I just purchased LESU, only to find out after the fact via content manager, that Asobo had done it too. Did I have to spend the money? Which one is best? Why Asobo?

That is why I started to check the content manager prior to a purchase every time. The problem still is that there is no easy way to tell (and compare) the quality of an airport (or plane, or other… ) prior to the purchase.

Interesting to know thank you. Now why is there no toggle “checkbox” inside of FS to do this? Seems like it would be a great idea to have this kind of thing achievable in sim. It’s crazy having the only option in sim to install/uninstall add ons. Not everyone has super fast broadband.

I don’t really know how Asobo decide which airports will be handcrafted. I wish they published the list of handcrafted airports before finishing a world update. But I learned my lesson with LPFR.

I’m really at a loss to understand this.

First. By having developers duplicate offerings, the only thing that achieves is, a theoretical 50% loss in sales for both creators, assuming a general 50-50 split in purchases - the Spitfire comes to mind. Too much of this and someone’s out of business, and we all lose valuable resources. It’s bad for developers, it’s bad for simmers, it leads to unnecessary questions and confusion (like this topic, for example) - it’s just a lose-lose situation all around.

Second. If the offerings are so close in quality, which I know isn’t always the case but quality is what keeps you in business so you better be on your game - if the quality is so close that it comes down to personal preference, then really, what is the point of redoing something that has already been done. Honestly, if you looked at the pictures above, unless you study them real close or are personally familiar with the airport, for the most part it’s hard to tell a discernible difference.

And third. Assuming there are ±50,000 real world airports, and assuming there are ±500 - or even a 1000 - available for flight sim (numbers for the sake of discussion), that represents 1-2% of RW airports have been done. That leaves a whole lot of choices yet to pick from - ±98% according to the numbers. With so many to do, we can’t afford time and resources squandered on duplicates…

Surely as a community we can better coordinate than this.
I picture a giant “projects” board in the cloud, call it…say…a ‘Flight Sim Index Site’, with all the worlds airports (and aircraft possibly) posted on it. Simmers would go there to vote on projects and (payware) developers would go and grab the posting they want to do and it’s done. That would be communication, baby…we have the technology…
Just thinkin’ outside the box ;-)…

I agree with you but if you are talking about the comparison of the two versions of Faro airport LPFR then you don’t even have to look closely to see the difference. Asobo’s (Gaya Simulations) presentation of the airport’s surrounding is about ten levels higher. You only need a closer look to see that the terminal is not just a textured box like TropilSim’s payware version.

That’s good info, mhron, and it supports what MimikriX said 5 posts up;

The problem still is that there is no easy way to tell (and compare) the quality of an airport (or plane, or other… ) prior to the purchase.

I’m probably not alone in saying;

  • I have to spend my sim bucks wisely
  • It’s VERY disappointing to make a purchase only to find there is a better version available

It sounds like TropilSim may need to up their game…we all know the saying…
Lead, follow or get out of the way…

Please, could someone tell me how to uninstall only the LECO airport in Asobo to be able to use mine for TDM payment without having to uninstall world update 8 from the content manager in a simple way.

@DatedLake601019 The “easiest” way to achieve this is to edit the Content.xml file which controls which packages MSFS loads at launch.

I successfully have disabled airports as part of a World Update by this method, which allows for the use of 3rd party airports instead.

The file is found in

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

for MS Store users, or in

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\

I think for Steam users.

The file can be edited with a text editor. Find the entry:

and change the “true” to a “false” at the end of that line.

This should work for you.

I will try to do it following your indications, actually I was looking for an easier option by disabling the LECO (Asobo) airport from the content manager inside the simulator, but I can’t find LECO (Microsoft /Asobo) I can only disable my LECO (TDM of payment) Thank you for your clarification, I will try to follow your instructions.

I did what you said and it worked perfectly, it is a good solution as long as there is no possibility to do it from the content manager from within the simulator. Thanks for your solution.
