Yesterday I uploaded my mod to flightsim.to.
I choose Flightsim.to because I like the site and want to support them.
I clearly stated both in the description and readme inside the rar-file: This is a mod exclusively for www.flightsim.to. Please do not upload it to other sites without my permission.
The text about it being exclusively for Flightsim.to, had been removed from both description and readme file. The watermarked pictures was obviously not used. Instead they used the low-res pictures inside the file.
The owners of allflightmods does not answer or respond to any of my attempts to contact them.
What do you guys and girls think about this? Is it OK?
Yes, I know it is freeware, but I want control over versions of the mod. And like I said, I like to support Flightsim.to. There will always be piracy. But a site like allflightmods, that looks legit, should at least respect my wish to have it removed.
This is my first and probably last mod for MSFS. I will not develop this mod any further.
If I find any improvements, I will use it for my own and only share it with trusted friends.
from a leagal point of view re copyright it is not ok of course,
unfortunately u will not be able to enforce ur rights imho, thus
from a practical point of view: if u upload something to somewhere
u give up any rights and will not be able to enforce anything …
I’m not spending hours to make this or any mod, just to have it stolen minutes after I publish it.
Now, hex-editing doesn’t require that great skills, but it is very time consuming, having to start the game countless times to see what effect it has on the sim.
The fact that it’s freeware doesn’t really matter, he still hold the rights to his own work, and can in principle request to have it removed, though these kind of sites doesn’t give 2 f**ks about peoples copyrights etc.
And the next one sells it… it‘s become a real problem on the internet and no jurisdiction really cares. Many contributors to the community have lost the motivation.
Look, you can get angry on something that you can’t do anything about or ignore it and enjoy whatever thing you do. Lots of people are happy with others making mods, just focus on that part.
In the days before PCs, when you typed Basic programs into your home computer, I had a game of mine published in a magazine. A few years later, an obvious version of this game appeared in the manual for the Amstrad CPC6128.
I took it as a compliment, and was glad more people would be playing it. Unless someone starts actually selling it, you can view it as sharing rather than stealing.
That’s what I mean by can’t do anything about it. Since it’s not payware/licensed you can’t really take any legal action. Sorry if it seemed like I meant freeware=no rights to work
Hey, they ripped my mod too. But at least they gave credits, and I didn’t mark it exclusive to flightsim.to, so I don’t really mind. However in your case where you wished to keep it to flightsim.to, I can understand.
Allflightmods are making money by advertisment every time you click download. Thats the reason why they grab the mod as fast as possible, to get as many downloads they can while the mod is fresh.
And that’s where I’m saying you are wrong, you can in fact still take legal action even though you release something for free… Though it would be incredibly costly for not much gained in the end.
