Altimeter freezes at 44.646 feet, then comes back after climbing/descending for a little while

PC Version

Steam version

Tested with no mods installed at all and dev mode off.

The altimeter reading will get stuck once you reach 44.646 feet. It comes back after you climb for a little bit, but if you then descend it will get stuck at 44.646 again and the same behavior happens, you descend for a while and then it comes back and catches up. Not sure but it seemed like if i slewed once it was stuck it helped, but not all the time. Pitot heat is on, this was my first thought too.

Imgur: The magic of the Internet 2 screens showing the problem encountered. TheReproCase reproduced the issue and showcased it in this following video: MSFS 1.22.2.0 Altimeter Bug w Live Weather - YouTube

To reproduce, simply attempt to climb to Fl450 without slewing. Once altimeter is stuck, climb OR descend and notice the altimeter get unstuck after a little while.

Specs of my build: 3080ti 9900K 32GB 3600 MHz

Started happening after 1.22.2.0 came out. Never seen it before that.

EDIT: After some more testing, this only occurs on live weather.

How about turning on pitot heat? The way you descibe it points in that direction.
What type of aircraft are you talking about?

Most things freeze at that height… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Pitot heat is on. After some more testing, this only occurs on live weather. So, it’s another live weather bug. I got this issue in both the F35, CJ4 and F/A-18. Not an aircraft specific issue.

Pitot heat is on.

That actually is a good find. :+1:
You should enter a Zendesk support ticket for this from the Support tab at the top of any forum page.
MS/Asobo does not monitor the forum to find items to fix.
When you do so, mention this thread in your support request, and the support ticket # in your post.
Once you have done all that, the more votes you get here escalates your issue in the triage order.

I’m having the same problem with the PC version, flying the Longitude!

MODERATOR EDIT:
The following 2 posts merged into this topic.

I played for the first time in a couple months today (PC Steam version) on the latest version. No mods, no dev mode. I primarily fly either the Longitude or CJ4, and today I was flying the Longitude up to its ceiling altitude of FL450.

However, upon reaching 44,600ft exactly, the altimeter stopped updating. So my aircraft continued in a climb without ever leveling off at 45,000ft because it permanently thought it was at 44,600. I switched over to the CJ4…same thing.

I have submitted a zendesk issue for this, but I only noticed one other person complaining of this in an unrelated thread back in December. Thought I would create a dedicated topic. This may be more applicable to the aircraft systems category? Not sure.

See this thread.

However , I don’t believe the original poster created a support ticket, so now there is a greater chnace it will get looked into!

Please note Feedback Logged tag which means it’s with Dev Team for triage.

I made a similar bug report to the Weather subtopic, so I have been referred to this thread. Since this is issue pertaining only to Live Weather and is not directly related to the aircraft systems themselves, perhaps the topic may be better migrated to the Weather section?

Repeating from my post—this bug is very similar to a previous one where due to an incorrect data format, climbing past FL440+ would trigger unnaturally hot temps and cause the plane to stall. I’m inclined to believe that this may be solved as a server-side issue.

This is a topic, with a Zendesk support ticket, created specifically for the issue, and the issue, as mentioned in the above threads, has already been accepted by the Development team to figure out what is going on.

Although it occurs with live weather, this issue may not be a result of same.

The moderators obviously believe your post will get better results when it is included in a specific thread for the issue, rather than a general weather thread. I tend to agree with them.

If you haven’t seen it, there is a vote button at the top.
The more votes, the higher the fix priority!

I experienced the same in the Longitude. PC version. Live weather with pitot heat on. Altimeter sticks at 44,640-ish while climbing or descending. Aircraft VS shows a climb or descent rate but altimeter doesn’t budge. After a bit it frees up. Glad the team is aware of it. I also voted.

All is well! I voted for this issue as soon as I was made aware of this thread. Now just giving my faith for this to be fixed fairly soon =)

I just thought that it was more of a weather issue when I first encountered it, but I’m open for it to go all ways xD

Altimeter freezing is not a behavior that results from pitot freezing…

If the pitot freezes the airspeed indicator will basically start acting like an altimeter - with readings changing based on altitude. The altimeter is based on the static port reading, and if it freezes, it will just freeze in place.

With this bug, as soon as you descend below FL446, the altimeter starts working again.
