Amazing Quest Pro

My first Experience with the Quest Pro.

Today I got my link cable and started to do some flights with my Quest Pro.
After reading Reviews I thought it would not be a good product but I find some reviewers and members here who made me reconsider.
On paper you would think that this machine is not good but omg this headset is really very good!!
Came from a quest 2 two a Reverb G2 and tried as a test the Pico 4 which returned in 1 day. Today I experienced the beauty of this machine and beside it has no display port the image quality and sharpness is amazing and for sure an upgrade over the Reverrb G2. The optics and the coulors are just amazing and i see almost none compression which makes sense since they use Usb 3 gen2 which gives you 2.5 gib in data speed. this is sufficient for the Pro to run a resolution of 5000/5000 whith all settings in Ultra and lod 200.
New York with the expansion pack runs flawless 35//40 fps.
I was looking at the pimax Crystal but honestly the price and the weight made me change my mind. Besides the Pro has a lot of other nice features as a stand alone.
I bought mine 3 months old and paid 875.
Comfort is good you just need to create a headband which is easy to do. weight is only 700 gr. All with all an amzing upgrade from the reverb g2 who will be on the market for sale now again. Love this new toy and can higly recommend.
I do run an 13700 with an 4090.
Think you need a machine like this to reach full potential.
So higher resolution screen is not just the key. Its the total optic stack. This product is so much better then the Pico 4 but also the HP Reverb G2 v2 and direct available in the market. Thought would be nice to share with you guys.

Happy flights and a great day!!

Glad you’re enjoying this as much as I am with my +7mo Quest Pro with similar spec PC (i913900k/rtx4090/32Gb 5200ram/z790mb/1000w psu). I’m mainly running mine wireless with Air Link and I can’t believe how good this works. Really 99% as good as with my Link cable imho. Cheers.

Are you using Dynamic Foveated Rendering?

Since moving to a i913900k/rtx4090 I haven’t found it necessary to use the OpenXR Toolkit, including fixed or dynamic foveated rendering with my Quest Pro.

cant agree more!! prefer tha cable but thats just because of the network. still use open xr forbghe sunglass function and FSR.
Will try again todau without. So happy!!

I too (after owning Q2, Reverb G2 and Pico 4) bought a Quest Pro about a month ago. I bought from Ebay UK for £700 brand new unopened.

Colours and brightness far exceed my previous headsets, I bought the Globular Cluster comfort kit (top strap and larger front and rear head pads - makes the headset very comfortable to wear for longer periods.

I personally love the ‘visor’ feel and get more immersion by being able to see my own surroundings periphery (doesn’t sound right but works for me). I don’t use any form of light blockers.

Speakers are the usual Quest ‘meh’ but I use some Anker Soundcore VR buds which just work and give great sound with no delay.

By far my favourite headset so far and runs perfectly at maximum resolution with a 12900K and RTX 3090.

Strangely, even though I have an official link cable (for £20 not £80!!!) I find Air-Link appears clearer - no idea why…

I also use foveated rendering with eye-tracking which works very well. You need to be in Quest developer mode and activate this. The only down side for me is the ‘gaps’ that appear when looking at Head Up Displays so I often turn it off if flying military aircraft

I’m thinking about buying a Pro and was curious about battery life when using Airlink.

I have a Quest 2 and use a Rebuff Reality battery pack on the back of the head strap to provide a longer playtime when using airlink, which works great. I also use the link cable when I want to.

Do you use an extra battery pack with your Quest Pro to get longer playtime on airlink, or are you limited to about 2hrs using the built-in battery? If you are using an extra battery pack, does it connect to the strap or do just sit the battery on the table or in your pocket?

Thanks,

For longer than 1.5 hr flights with msfs with my QPro/rtx4090 using Air Link I use a 10000mahr 30w battery pack with a short 1m battery lead with right angle connectors that also clips into the included QPro cable guide.

I place the battery in my front left shirt pocket and route the cable around the right side of my head to the headset. When I do this I never even feel any adverse effects. For action games I place the battery in one of my pants pockets.

These are the packs I use (good for at least an extra 2-3 hours runtime, and are hot swappable so I have 2x of these) and cable;

Any usb charger 2 amps or better will work well. I use this fast charger;

Hope this helps mate and cheers.

Awesome headset, only had mine 5 days, took a gamble on ebay, Brand new sealed £650. Watched a few peoples reviews using it for msfs saying how good it was and how it probably is one of the best headsets. Absolutely love the Quest Pro off your face fit, and with a after market top strap going across side to side it really is all day comfort and feels a million times better than my Quest 2 pressing against my face. Never would buy a gas mask type fitting headset again they are horrible. Link cable keeps it powered over 80% at all time so can use it all day if i wanted. The best thing though are the beautiful clear lens, they make such a massive difference compared to my quest 2. I like my Quest pro headset a lot, its got me interested in vr again without spending a fortune. Great headset and more than worth it at the money i paid, well recommended for this type of thing.

Curious if any of you guys need to use dlss or if the 4090 has enough juice to drive the raw image to the headset on the quest pro

Cheers

I use DLSS in MSFS and then also use OpenXR Toolkit to override the native resolution to sharpen up the game’s resolution, especially the PMDG’s MFD screens.

Nice, I did consider the Quest Pro but in the end the resolution and colour pass through put me off. Hopefully the Quest 3 will address those issues but really I want a Quest Pro 2 to fix the issues they should have addressed first time around! :grinning: , I have a G2 and for now I’m happy to stick with it.

It does - that’s awesome to hear, thanks mate.
I’ve got a similar battery and cable from a separate job so that will work out nicely.
Thanks for the links too, that fast charger looks good.

I recently upgraded from a 3070 to a 4090 and really enjoying MSFS now in VR.

Cheers

Quick follow-up question about the Quest Pro, if I may please.

What headset refresh rates are available in PCVR mode on the Quest Pro? Is it just 72Hz, 90Hz?

Or can it also do 80Hz and 120Hz?

I’m currently loving 72Hz mode on my Quest 2. I set it to ASW auto mode and it’s super smooth when I’m above 36 FPS. My eyes notice the slight flicker at 72Hz but I’ve gotten used to it. 80Hz is much nicer on my eyes but maintaining 40+FPS is a little trickier.

Occasionally, I also make use of the 30Hz ASW mode when things get super dense in scenery and I can’t maintain 36 FPS. I use voice attack to simply switch between the 2 types of ASW motion reprojection (asw.clock30, asw.clock45)

Thanks

Well, I have forgotten about the existence of Quest Pro. But thanks to you I read your post and other’s comments I decided to purchase one myself. I’ll be picking it up later today from my local Best Buy store. :grinning:

Hi, 72, 80, and 90Hz are supported in the Quest pro.

@DeltaFlyer44 The Quest Pro PCVR refresh rates are 72, 80, 90Hz. Personally I use 80Hz refresh rate for everything because I cannot tell the difference between it and 90Hz. Plus this also improves performance a little bit because it has less frames per second to render. With 72Hz I do start to see a little ghosting/blurring in very fast action games and racing sims.

Everyone has different refresh rate tolerance so you just need to find what works best for you. Cheers.

It runs in Taa with a 4090 at gold coast 25fps.
I prefer DLSS quality @4700x4700

G2 is a great machine. But the Pro is really another ball game but you need a 4090.
