An upgrade advice

I have an I9-9900k with a 3070TI GPU should I upgrade my CPU to get better performance? please check pics

check the built-in dev mode and open the frames thingy ( i can’t recall the exact options off the top of my head)

it will tell you CPU or GPU limited and that will be your best indicator of where the bottleneck is.

GPU Limited - Your GPU is not processing the data fed by the CPU fast enough
CPU Limited - You CPU is not fast enough to processing the data by the game

Thank you for your reply . It says CPU limited but as you can see in the pics my CPU is only 30-40% and my GPU is around 50-60% this is why I am confused.
What CPU do you recommend?

The problem is that your cpu uses a 1151 socket, where you already pretty much has the best option. If you want to upgrade the CPU you would need a different motherboard as well.

the CPU utilization shown is average on all cores. MSFS mainly hammers a single core with not much load on all the other cores, meaning the average % is low even if one core is maxing out.

I am aware of that and I am willing to upgrade both my CPU and GPU but I need some advice on that because I don’t want to end up with a GPU bottleneck. (3070TI)

3070TI is a solid GPU.
I you don’t display on 4K monitor Your 3070TI will do the job !

I have the same configuration and have a new Aourus X670 Elite AX, 7950X3D, G Skill Flare x5 32gb 6000 cl 30 memory on the way this week. Didn’t plan on upgrading just yet but have grown tired of stutters and lower frame rates. Hope this new build will hold on for a while. Best of luck!

For what it’s worth, currently I run at 4k with better numbers than you’re showing. It’s really the stuttering that annoys me.

Congrats on your new upgrade but I hope you have a good GPU for it.

Not only is the notification whether you are CPU or GPU bound important, but by how much. If the frame times for mainthread (CPU) and GPU are similar, then upgrading the component with the slightly leading frametime very quickly reveal that you needed to upgrade the other component too. If, however, one frametime is significantly greater than the other, upgrading that associated component alone should do the trick.

I upgraded my i9-9900K and I’m very pleased.
Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Elite AX motherboard
i5-13600K CPU
DDR5
Corsair 5000D Case
Corsair RM1000e 1000 watt Power Supply

Big improvement in graphics.
Big improvement in performance.

Keep in mind that “dev mode” will always report that either CPU or GPU are the current limit, regardless of what hardware you have or what you add. So long as you are getting the results you want and the reported frame times are similar, that’s as good as it gets.

go with an amd x3d chip, any of them is faster than intel with msfs
