As per last thread the CPU overheating was fixed, but now I have GPU overheating
I have an AMD 6700xt. Temps go up to about 78 or so. I see some artifacts on the screen appearing. Then boom, PC reboots.
I am going to mess with settings, but anyone else having these issues with a 6700xt?
MSFS and adventures with graphics cards are like gin and tonic - they just go together. I have an RTX 3070. Last week while in MSFS my high hot spot hit 97c. It doesnât usually get that high - normally with MSFS running it hits about 87-89c. Everything works fine, no reboots or anything. When outside of MSFS, itâs HALF that. Iâm not overclocked on any of my hardware.
I went online to look for help. While most sites I found say thatâs way too high, others said not to worry because itâs designed to run that hot, and if it gets overheated, itâll shut down and its only then that you have to be concerned. I took off my glass side cover because it dropped the temp 10c immediately, and that action was a lot less dangerous than approaching my wife with a request to buy a new card.
Then I went to one of our local computer stores. I thought maybe I needed thermal paste, or maybe I needed to get a new case because mine might not have good circulation. Both guys there said that 97c was no problem. One of them actually had a 3070 and he said itâs normal and his runs that hot too. So yeah, lots of fun.
Yep thatâs the âhot spotâ temperature reading which is going to be the hottest place on the die
Interestingly whatâs your regular temps showing ?, cards can run ok in the 80 degree Celsius mark and what with thermal throttling your pc shop is right
What cooling do you use air or liquid? , not a great idea to keep your case open unless you live in a pretty sanitised area free from dust , pet hairs etc
78C is not a problem on a GPU. What about the cardâs RAM temps? I agree with other comments that it is more likely overclock or power limit problems. If neither of those, perhaps the card is starting to have HW problems. The artifacts can be a symptom of that.
Semiconductor junction temperature (Tj) limits are very high. Like 125C. Tj is not the package temperature, so donât get them confused. Tj over 100C is not out of spec I think.
