[Announcement] Carenado Do 228

I’m on version 1.0.1, I tried prop axis after the update but it didn’t work…I’ll try again tomorrow…thanks’ for your help.

I just sent Carenado a Bug Report that the throttle binding is still a mess even after the update, lets see if they answer…

I can’t even fly this on xbox. Any time I try to select it and configure it, it freezes the whole sim. On a series x, latest version of the plane. Tried streamed and installed.

Edit: I was using sim update 6 beta. I reverted to the release build and it works. I’m sure carenado is tracking, but I sent them a ticket anyway, just in case.

Also, on Xbox, the throttle gets stuck at minimum and you have to use the “full throttle” shortcut to get it to move forward again. Then quickly reduce it back to where you wanted it. It makes landing more difficult. Not sure why it’s doing that, but seems related to all the binding issues everyone is having.

Edit2: I take it back. It happens in the current sim build too. I wonder if I can get a refund.

Is the condition lever binding also still a mess…?

Until this is fixed with an update, I won’t buy this aircraft. I want to be able to control the throttle and condition lever with my Logitech throttle quadrant, just like with all my other aircraft…

I use my default “prop Axis” for them and it works, no magic involved with any other 3rd party tool. So concerning this specific question, the awnser is NO, it isn’t a mess anymore.

If someone has trouble with the binding it has to be an issue on the user side.

Besides that I am not so sure if I would buy it again in its overall state :eyes:

Okay.

Are you somewhat dissatisfied or disappointed with the aircraft?

What don’t you like, what isn’t working, what bothers you, what would you like to see improved…?

Thank you!

I kindly ask you to read through this thread…opinions are all posted right here :victory_hand:

Anyone else have the vertical speed indicator stuck at 4000fpm? Also, the Nav radio is adjustable on the GPS, but not on the center console.

Update: looks like it was a conflict with something in my Community folder. I deleted a few possible suspects, and back to normal.

Yeahh you can use the default axis yess. How do you use the Beta Range? Maybe you can use it, I can’t on the Honeycomb Bravo, but Beta Range is essential for Turboprops… How do use Beta Range? Like me using F2 and F3 on the keyboard when e.g. Black square can make it work perfectly for any Throttle Quadrant? This is my point and on the Prop Levers did you manage to bind the cut off on your Throttle quadrant? Because I have not managed it. Let us know, otherwise my point is valid, it is still a mess…

Another bug by the way is the flaps 3 notch. Use it once and the plane will literally slow down and loosing height even when at 90-100% throttle. It is a bug which I reported to Carenado too…

Please read my reply to your post, Beta Range is not bindable and fuel cutoff as well not. If you managed to bind it please let us know how to make that work properly.

Flaps 3 as well bugged unless that I love the aircraft.

Nope, Cut off is not on the Prop Axis. But you actually don’t need that: the 228 is shut down by using the “Stop” position on the Starter Switches. I have a screenshot from Arcus Air video attached; have a look: he is pushing both Switches down to the Stop position, and the Prop Levers are in Low Idle.

For engine-failure operations in the air…don’t kow how to do it with that assignment, honestly.

Regarding Beta/Reverse: use the “Throttle 0-100%” axis bindings. We mentioned it earlier in this thread already.

This gives you the full range control over the levers. You then have to manipulate the controller curve to match the detents to your hardware.

I would prefer to have it the way it works in most other aircraft in the sim, meaning that the physical idle on my throttle (or “0” thrust) transfers to Flight Idle; I usually then have a toggle reverse button assigned that inverts my throttle into Beta/Reverse.

I think your reply was meant for Flexxair? I don’t own this aircraft and can’t say anything about it. I’m considering whether to buy it or wait for further updates…

Unless you own every engine control out there I don’t think you can say that. They work better on your hardware is more accurate. Why do you think people who can, use external apps for better control over their flight sim hardware. The bigger issue here is the in game binding system.

I could kiss you  I changed mine a little as scared I’d put it into GI when flying. So on my Honeycomb brave, I have the detent on the throttle setting to -1000 and the binding you have just to zero. Seems ok.

Thanks!

I have a question regarding the approach performance of the Do 228.

A few days ago I flew an approach into ENOL (runway 33) with approximately 260°/44 kt winds. The effective wind was roughly a 30 kt headwind and a 30 kt crosswind from the left.

I was fully configured with full flaps and flying about 110 KIAS on final. What surprised me was that I had to use almost maximum continuous power just to maintain Vapp and stay on the glide path. It felt like there was very little power margin left.

This also made me wonder about go-around performance. If I’m already close to maximum power during a stabilized approach, there doesn’t seem to be much thrust available for a missed approach in those conditions.

On the other hand, I’m also wondering if my Vapp was simply too high. I was flying around 110 KIAS because of the strong wind, but perhaps that was excessive for the Do 228 and resulted in unnecessarily high power requirements.

Is this representative of the real aircraft, or could the current flight model have a little too much flap drag or slightly conservative engine performance?

I’d be very interested to hear from anyone with real-world Do 228 experience, or from the developer if this matches the aircraft’s actual behaviour.

Consider using less flaps in high or gusty winds. A 30kt crosswind is no joke, and you’ll be glad of the extra airspeed to better control your landing.

It is a bug for sure I already reported it to Carenado. Maybe fingers crossed they may or not react…

Tried this in Career today - You can’t disable crash damage, mine were all greyed out.
Anyhow, the Ap switched on but none of the other HDG or NAV would switch on, trimming it out did not stop it trying to outclimb a Falcon, it would not capture the set ALT. I despair!

I suspect this is not related to this aircraft, but the Assistance Presets that are applied to career missions.

I could imagine they didn’t expect that much feedback/reports at all and never planned to actually take further steps…I hope I am wrong.
