[Announcement] FS Trains: North America

Thanks for the info. I did some investigation, and tunnels are not working as had I them working in development. Trains were meant to stop when reaching a tunnel, but, something got mixed up at some point, so they are driving from one side to the other over the terrain.
This way does have an advantage; if you can ignore that the train is riding over the terrain, you can continue to follow it. I will try implement a better solution, such that the trains go under the terrain and come out the tunnel on the other side.

I ignored the trains riding up the terrain, and I’m glad I did. Watching it continue along after the tunnel took it to some really beautiful, scenic curves. I wish I knew how to take good screenshots while in VR. I would have had some amazing shots of the trains in action. I really love this addon!

Press Ctrl Tab to get out of VR, press Prnt Scn to ■■■■ your screenshot and Ctrl Tab again! Or if you’re using Steam F12 is set as screencapture.

If I exit out of VR to take a screenshot the train is no longer there.

You blinked, you missed your shot

Was there an update today? I am at work, so I can’t check until I get home…If there was an update, was it beneficial?

Thank you!

I should have said an update to the FS Trains. I had read that we might be expecting one today…

Yeah I’m sorry. I totally missed what this thread was about.

I was also expecting an update, however, Microsoft failed to provide sign off for release on time. So I guess It comes out next week.

can you share a roadmap or any update plan for future FStrains features?

Well, I guess we will get the update when they get it out to us. What we have now is better than what we had before with the standard MSFS2020 and I am enjoying having the trains in the scenery for Flight Simulator. I can wait one week for Microsoft to get the next update of FSTrains out to us.

@Wilster2070 No roadmap; I don’t know what features will actually be possible until having a crack at implementing them. Say I could make a scenery with 10s of millions of 3D models to render every track, crossing and signal in 3D but maybe I try it and the loading time tanks, or I hit some other limitations.
Additionally, the addon doesn’t sell well. Last week sold a grand total of 12 copies. Product will go on Special Offer tomorrow along with the update, hopefully that can give it a boost. If not, the economic situation will focus my efforts on aircraft projects, which always sell well.

i will buy it,if it is for regions i fly most,so Alps i like to have Trains

Stephen, make the world full of trains and make the product ready. Dont expect to get good reviews, if we as players dont see trains quikly on train ways. Let us decide how many trains we want in the area of current flying, add slider for trains etc.
My 2 cents

Soo if sales don’t pick up, no Europe edition? =(

Hey Steven, is there a link you can provide other than the MS marketplace? Maybe simmarket. com? I’d love to get this but I wont deal with the marketplace.

second this

Completely understandable.
If you ever decide to take the product out of the marketplace for lack of sales and shelve the product, I’d suggest you consider teaming up with other devs into making the train project open source for further development. I’m sure there are many enthusiasts out there who would be happy to donate developer time and money in order to expand FStrains worldwide!

hah, it won’t come to that, just aircraft projects may get higher priority.

I’m thinking next FS Trains product will be FS Trains: Switzerland.
Swiss geo data is really high fidelity, which can aid making a really high fidelity addon. We can have every bridge & tunnel in 3D, with trains traversing them perfectly following their real-world schedules.
