It would be great to have trains in the sim. I’ll be honest, I’m going to wait to see what MSFS 2024 has, but if I remember right they closed the trains wishlist item as not planned so I’ll likely be back to get some trains for Christmas…
I did trains mod for Helsinki are 2 years ago. I was able to extract only 3d railroads from osm data but was not sure, were there elevation data includes.
So your mod works differently than road traffic? Cars usually vanish when they enter tunnels.

Yes you have a chance to find an Amtrak train, but the majority of trains are freight.

Amtrak??? Texas Eagle Run. How about the future Las Vegas Brightline??
consider making the DDS libraries non-encrypted, so modders will be able to make their own "skins’ for train cars.

I like this idea if it’s technically feasible!
I don’t think there is any option to ‘opt-out’ from encryption. But I see you like box cars, so;
There is no graffiti, as for performance optimization reasons each car must share the same textures. Graffiti needs variety to work; I think it will not look good if every car has exactly the same tags.
