[ANNOUNCEMENT] Heatblur and IndiaFoxtEcho announce F-14A and B for MSFS 2020

I’m doing a flight with my friends on VATSIM and vPilot doesn’t recognize my radios as on. Think this is a bug.

I cant tune the ADF. I can switch it on but the frequency won’t change

You know, with all of the functions that are either missing or altered in this version, I think they should just allow us to tune the tacan to a VOR so we can track them by using the channel-to-frequency charts.

2 dump questions:

  1. as I cannot find the transponder last night (ok, I know now it should be around the RIO seat right side panel), actually will jester by default handle the correct transponder code?

  2. I just got lazy and do a VFR point to point flight plan on map, and upon force align INS, and I align to home base which should be the final waypoint, somehow it is always roughly in the correct direction in the nav panel but then no distance is shown, and that the heading direction is missed quite a bit, only roughly pointint to destination?

I wonder how the Juice Goose slipped through…? :joy:

Looks like we still have to use Jester until the switches function more like DCS.

Quick question:
Is the DLC wheel implemented? Are there bindings for notching the wheel up and down ?

Covered in the Quick Start Guide linked up-thread. DLC is linked to flaps/wing sweep. Basically, as I read the document, deploy the flaps for landing and DLC is activated.

I read that in the quickstart but what I’m not sure is once DLC is IN how do you control the spoilers for adjusting pitch when landing without touching the throttle or pitch.
My understanding is that the DLC wheel will adjust spoilers to correct pitch when DLC is IN.
But if the flaps are used for DLC then you won’t be able to adjust the spoilers as you will have the same keybind for getting out of DLC and adjusting them?

That sounds like a good question for the Heatblur or IFE Discords, I think.

I have the feeling I’m not going to like the answer…

I love this plane. Seriously we’ll done. I have been messing with the TACAN navigation. The weird thing is I can only pickup becons that are within 40 miles of the aircraft. And I’m at 40,000 ft. Shouldn’t i be able to pickup a TACAN at least a few hundred miles out at that altitude? Any help appreciateed.

Thanks.

It’s a minor bug in the startup state. It will be fixed in the next update.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hello, is there a way to bind aircraft-specific switches and buttons that don’t appear in the controls menu (wing sweep switch, HUD modes, etc) ? I’d like to replicate my DCS F-14 HOTAS setup in MSFS.

Hello, Im using Fs traffic from justflight. Unfortunately I was not able to see any radar contacts so far. Maybe the tomcat radar just doesn’t work with this kind of traffic injection?

It should be possible. it’s quite difficult to get the settings right, but I did manage to track some targets with FSLTL injector.

I have yet to get a track on anything myself. Besides beam-width and elevation bars settings, what other radar settings did you use?

Also: has anyone enabled “Eye of Sauron” mode in the Cheats menu and what is the effect of that in terms of radar detection/tracking?

I’m still figuring it out, since we don’t have a comprehensive guide on what stuff was changed from the DCS version in order to port it over to MSFS.

Eye of Sauron: I use this pretty much any time I want to see stuff in the radar. They said it removes a layer (mask?) so, since objects tend to appear and disappear at random in MSFS, I say leave it on.

The modes don’t seem to be the same as DCS. For instance, PD mode shows returns that seem a lot like DCS, but pulse search mode does not, and the returns shown seem like simple icons as opposed to the ground scatter and stuff. I have not found any evidence (at all) of the close modes for the pilot to set when in visual range.

What I have discovered so far is that there are some ranges which are too close (just a few miles is too close for a return). So, you have to search for returns which correspond to the distance chosen in the radar range setting, and the tilt degree matters a lot. Just one or two degrees off, and the blips disappear.

In theory, pulse doppler does not work unless there is enough of a velocity difference between you and the target. I am not yet sure if that is implemented, but I think they have tried to do it, since PD mode has sometimes resulted in blips disappearing, and then they show up again in pulse search mode, but I need more testing to be sure.

Also, you have to have your weapons select mode correct, otherwise you won’t see a target acquisition diamond on the HUD, and you also need to manually select the target by using the scroll wheel on the RIO joystick.
