Another sad onecoreplatformservice_z

Yesterday, after using MSFS 2020 for a couple of years, and having closed it just a few minutes earlier, I tried to open the simulator again. I was met with this error:

Fatal error: Please make sure your hardware is supported by this application. Please refer to the ReadMe file. (OneCorePlatformService_Z)"

Since then, I haven’t been able to use the simulator again. I’ve tried every possible solution I could find:

  • Updated Windows (I’m currently on Windows 10)
  • Updated and reinstalled drivers
  • Verified file integrity via the Microsoft Store
  • Updated the BIOS
  • Restore the system

None of these worked

The only thing that partially worked was reinstalling the simulator (RIP my SSD). That allowed me to play a few times, but this morning the error came back.

Is there anything else I can try?
I’ve searched everywhere and found no real solution.

Sometimes when I launch the sim, the error popup appears, and sometimes it just silently crashes with no message.

Before this, I was also experiencing an issue where, after closing the simulator, the process would remain running in the background (minimized), and I had to manually end it using the Task Manager.

Here are my (probably useless at this point) system specs:

  • i5 8500
  • GTX 1660 Super
  • Asus B360-F
  • 16GB RAM
  • Windows 10 22H2 (Build 19045.6093)

Try an older video driver.

I think this typically points to a missing or corrupted Windows component.

Also install optional updates.
