Any chance of getting aircraft from MS 2004 A Century of Flight?

To the community at large… in the hopes that some of those aircraft could make it in here… would be nice to fly the Flyer over this scenery! … plus the other planes as well…

There are folks who have brought across FSX planes already.
There are some very good threads on how they did that in the “SDK Discussion” - “Aircraft” section.

I would expect that you would have to go 2004 > FSX > MSFS. I could see this causing issues.

Good luck.

I agree. I already wrote some time ago in the forum that it would be very nice to have the possibility to refly in the new sim some of the most important historical planes. The Flyer, the Bleriot XI (I know that a payware already appeared), the Spirit of S. Louis, the DC-3, the Ford Trimotor, and so on.

There are a couple of DC-3’s in the works, along with a few other historical models. But the 3D format that was used just under 18 years ago just won’t make the transition to this new sim. And if they did, you’d look at them and say “What was I thinking?” With a limit of only ~65,000 polygons, no self-shadows, and only fake reflections via alpha in the textures, they’d look pretty poor compared to what we have now.

Imagine a group event similar to the ‘Fly KJFK → KLAX’.

Only, It is ‘Fly the Atlantic in the Spirit of St. Louis’

It will happen as time goes by, and the sim develops.

I know… 2d/3D cockpits are a large issue, as are flight models and system modeling code from 2004… one can wish…

Missing gliders, proper seaplanes…old prop planes… dc-3 over the Himalayas was always fun.

Well, the point of bringing them to MSFS would be to fix all of the things in the models (redoing the textures, as is done in making FS9 models “FSX Native”). The only one you’d be stuck with would be the <65K polygons… which, yeah, I bet people would be, umm… concerned.

The other big unmentioned concern would be the reflected textures, which, the only way to fix that would be to remap the models. Given they’re so low poly, I wonder if that just means copying the offending texture and relinking the reflected patches to the new file.

And just think back how chuffed we were to be able to fly them …and the fun we had doing so, even with those limits! You could almost smell the canvas, hot metal, leather and smoke and dirt… like driving a steam engine !

Nowadays everyone seems to be whining that 40 FPS at 4K is no good, unless they are at ultra settings…
