Any downside to moving Orbx aircraft/airports into my old folder system for Addon Linker?

I purchased a number of aircraft and airports through Orbx. They use their own installer which downloads content to a specific folder. I want to move all of those products into my Main Library so that I can organize them my way.

I have experimented moving one product and Orbx (and its installer) didn’t complain. But I am not sure what happens if one of those products get updated. I am guessing, Orbx installs it as usual and then I could move the version over.

Are there any gotchas to doing this for my whole Orbx library?

All I did was set up a new source alongside my other one in Addons Linker and point that to the Orbx Library.

It’s a a bit weird because al the Orbx stuff is inside /MSFS and then a community sub folder for each, but that in between level shows the product name as a folder and ticking those on and off works. Updates work fine and will reactivate the symbolic links so you’d need to untick it again after an update if you dint want it loading in the sim.

I like to organize all my pay and free airports by region or country or state depending on how many airports I have in that area, so that I can turn on just California or just Eastern Australia before loading in.

Will your method allow for that?

I don’t think updates would work then but can’t say for sure as I’ve never tried it.

That is basically what I do and have not had any issue with Orbx sceneries not getting along with it

I have my Orbx airports sorted by counties using add on linker, and as long as I enable them all (make sure the shortcuts are in the community folder) before updating through the orbx app, it all works fine.

Now Aerosoft is another matter………

Thanks all for the info, I figured it was safe to do, but confirmation is great.

Hi @MojaveHigh2379 ,

Thank you for your post! Your topic has been moved to a sub-category of the User Support Hub

The General Discussion category is meant for discussions that fall outside of our other sub-categories.

If you would like other users to help you with an issue you are experiencing in the sim, consider these User Support Hub categories for your future post:

Aircraft & Systems
ATC, Traffic & NAVAIDs
Crashes (CTDs)
Hardware & Peripherals
Install, Performance & Graphics
Scenery & Airports
User Interface & Activities
Virtual Reality (VR)
Weather & Live Weather
Miscellaneous

I move everything (From every provider) into my individual categories for Addon Linker.

I then have a profile called “MSFS Updates” that has everything enabled, and that allows ORBX, Contrail, iniManager, etc… to update everything as needed when I do my update routine.

I don’t understand that second part. Why does enabling everything help the different stores run their updates?

Because (typically) most folks have the software managers installed BEFORE something like addon linker. Which means they all have the Community folder set in their paths (either by default or you specified during installation).

So when you run them (say ORBX client) if the airport or whatever it is you bought, isn’t in the community folder, it just shows as not installed.

So rather then going back and updating all the managers to point to where you put stuff centrally for Addon Linker, I just create an Addon Linker profile called “MSFS Updates” with everything turned on. That way, it’s all in the Community Folder and I can run the gambit of updating everything.
