I have generally positive experiences with the GM rips so I can’t share your sceptisism. Also: they have improved quite a lot over time, also when it comes to performance and loading times (baked textures, reduced files sizes, better color correction etc. So with PG rips it’s no longer September 2020 
But I agree: Asobo PG is still mostly far superior, and there still is a lot of crap out there. However with the work from Thalixte, Olmecslayer and John Lovell among others, you get quite usable stuff IMHO.
