In older 3D engines that use a distance fog system in front of a skydome instead of a dynamic volumetric atmosphere with moving fog banks you can see from a distance at every angle*. What we have is a new standard that requires a new way of doing things. If you don’t want to downgrade to the old non-volumetric atmosphere, then the only option to control the visibility is being able to precisely control the 3D atmosphere using reference points (IE: METAR stations) or a grid, which would be great. Unfortunately though, it seems like some people are literally asking to scrap the volumetric atmosphere and go back to a distance fog system, which would be a pretty big loss in my opinion, even if it’s for presets only.
