Any way to speed up the loading time?

I just want to know if there is any way to make faster the loading time to open Fligth Simulator 2020.
I have tested and it takes 2:00 minutes to reach the main menu, and I think it is too much time. My PACKAGES direcctory is empty.
I have the game installed in a nvme pcie 4.0 drive (I think it is the fastest drive so far), and still it is too much time. My CPU is Ryzen 7 5800X. I wonder if there is any way to:

  1. Skip intro sccrens (I don’t know if they are in fact increasing the loading time, maybe not).

  2. Skip the “Checking for updates”. It seems to consume a lot of time everytime I start the game. Maybe it is possible to check it only once a day (not always).

I also want to klnow if there is any way to launch directly a flight without passing trhoug the main menu (a saved flight for example).

Ok, I have read how to apply the -fastlaunch (my game is the MS Store version), and now it takes 1,39 minutes to the main menu. It is still too much time.

The only way is this: Push the Desktop MSFS icon, go to the kitchen and put the kettle on to make coffee, then get your favorite mug out, find the sugar or cream and when the water boils make the coffee, get back to your PC and MSFS will be ON and ready to fly…

99 seconds to get to the main menu is very good albeit still about 90 seconds more than I would like
You can shave off a few more seconds by deleting any plane or asset you don’t need from the content manager.

We can’t do anything. The game loads tons of small files and it’s normal it takes minutes to start.
Slow by design :man_shrugging:

I really think “checking for updates” could be not necessary every time I launch the game, and considering these big loading times Asobo could try to stop forcing us to spend our lives waiting for something that is not necessary.

The -fastlaunch tweak demonstrate me that Asobo cares not too much about how much time I have to spend to play the game.

This “waiting” problem is also a good reason to convince me to not install packages, provided that they also have to be checked and I have to wait even more time.

It is. The game checks the consistency of the packages and makes sure none is deleted.

Well, you don’t always get what you want. Just get used to it that complex software needs some time.
Don’t waste your time fiddling with the sim, you won’t get much better anyhow.

Not completely true. You can modify several core files and the ‘checking for updates’ will not take any action to restore them.

As I said, it checks if the packages are deleted, if their version numbers and dependencies match the other packages as stated in their manifest etc.
If you delete one package, it will be downloaded.

There should be a way not to have to sit though all the info about current updates. You should be able to go directly to the game and not have to sit for three minutes watching all the info about what has been updated. If you have seen it once that is more than enough. It is somewhat like commercials on television. All I want to do is fly…not watch commercials…

if you think that is too much time, play another game, msfs is not for the impatients

The game loads in the background and shows you some information. It’s not like you can skip this and be immediately loaded.

I’ve just loaded my Read Dead Redemption 2.

1:20 from double clicking the launcher to the main menu.
3:03 from double clicking the laucher to the game.

Complaints like these are pointless and don’t lead to anything. Large games, all above online, take time to load. And for a flight simulator there is a LOT to be loaded.

Aviation is patience. turning base too early because dw was too long will not end well.

I think Asobo should try to remove every unnececsary check or anything that make us wait more than just the competerly neccesary. Time is gold, and I have not bought this game to wait, but to enjoy. Of course I understand this game manages big data, but that not neccesary means that I have to wait.

Maybe this game needs to be better to solve this issue. I am not a programer and I won’t say what is the right solution, but these waiting times are not a good thing. For the moment I would remove all the repetitive adverts about what has been improved in the gamme while loading… even if these adverts don’t contribute to increase the waiting time. If I have to read something in the meantime, I prefer adverts about information concerning to what is the team fixing right now, and what is going to be implemented in the next future.

I am NOT a programmer. The last “computer language” I learned was BASIC in college. I do know, from speaking to friends who ARE programmers that you can load in a basic startup package and then continue to run other program components in the background as they are needed. You DO NOT need to run the complete program from the start. Maybe this is possible with FS2020 or maybe not. Only the programmers know for sure. I think if you compare the load times for X-Plane and FS2020 you will find a large discrepancy. FWIW.

No serious programmer would dare to judge the complexity of another program that he/she never saw the source code of.

Never said they did. What they did say was that my friends say there are ways of back loading parts of a program so the front end loads more quickly. I think this is something that Microsoft is well aware of but why they don’t do it on FS2020 remains a mystery. Maybe they want to run commercials as part of the loading process. Again I am NOT a programmer so my knowledge of such matters is nonexistent. FWIW

As an aside,I pay for cable TV and yet I have to sit through commercials on the programs just like I would if I was watching “over the air” TV for free. It really, IMHO, makes no sense to me.

Again: This claim might be valid for some programs while it isn’t for others.

Sorry, but that’s plain nonsense.

Then maybe trust those who are. And they are working hard on improvements in the sim where there is really something to gain.
Hint: You won’t come down from 93s to 3s loading time as the thread opener expects for a product of this type. Neither does ANY game with a certain complexity.

That’s because they sell the airtime for commercials and get direct money from. I don’t see anything shown in the loading screens to pay Microsoft/Asobo money since they just show features that you get for free once you have the base sim (which you already bought when you’re starting it).

Your suggestion that this waiting time is fake just to make a commercial is also ivalid since the CPU, GPU, SSD and RAM are busy the whole time while the sim is starting.

Well you seem to have all the answers…

Are you a programmer? Do you work for Microsoft? Do you have inside information about FS2020? A lot of what you are saying seems to indicate that.

People here can express their opinions and I have mine and you have yours…have a good weekend!

They certainly are. On a domain joined Windows 10 machine run “gpupdate /force /sync”, and let it reboot. See how much longer it takes for the login screen to appear. Those processes you are now waiting for normally run in the background asynchronously.
