Any word on improvements to the SDK in 2024?

Seems like a lot of basic things are difficult/impossible for me to accomplish in 2020, or take many more steps than they should. IMO, for example, importing a 3D model should not be so difficult - I’ve been working in 3D for many years, importing to various software, and still have had zero success.

Editing / moving / excluding default airport objects is another. Exclusion polygons for vegetation seems to work, but, at the moment, neither polygons nor rectangles will remove a beacon right in the middle of the parking ramp.

Further… all those taxi lights and ground crew I’ve run over…

Has there been any discussion of intended improvements for 2024?

Model import: This post might be helpful

Windsocks: They can be removed with exclusion rectangles but they will still be seen in the SDK after deletion, but not in the “final” product.

Taxiway lights: Remove all left and right taxiway lights in each Taxiway Path, then place edge lights with the Light Row tool.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! Will check that out, though the exclusion rectangle doesn’t seem to work on beacons. It used to.

I’ll change my op to read “beacons” instead of “windsocks”. Not sure if that makes any difference…

I have used the full SDK to build several airports but only moved one beacon. Recently I’ve been using the World Hub “subset” of the SDK. Many have said they can’t delete beacons. So I can’t help with that one.

But windsocks are a different story. They definitely can be deleted!

I’ve certainly been able to exclude beacons in the past. But found I then couldn’t place a new stock Asobo one in the correct charted location. I had to use a 3rd party model from one of the scenery packs and then couldn’t create a light that flashed correctly.

When you say import 3D models do you mean as something created in Blender? That also works for sure, but it’s hardly an intuitive process requiring a special blender plugin.

Overall, I find the scenery editor SDK incredibly time consuming for lots of tasks (correcting parking and taxiway paths is way too finicky) and I marvel at the patience of professional scenery builders. Same with blender too tbh. Life is generally too short for this so I stick to the simple fixes and hope it’s better in 2024…

Hi - sorry, was traveling.

Yes - I’m referring to importing a model I’m building in Blender.
I’ve seen and followed tutorials, but nothing has worked.

I’ve been doing 3D for like 30 years. This should be far easier.

Whereas I only started last year!

I can’t remember well now, but I recall you need that special file converter plugin for MSFS in blender and you also need to use a slightly older version of blender as well.

I can wholly agree it should be a lot easier.
