Debating an upgrade of my 3080 12GB to a 4090. Would be paired with a 5800X3D. Currently on a single 1440p ultra wide but would likely switch to a single 4K or triple 1440p if I end up with the 4090.
Has anybody done that upgrade? Is it a significant improvement in MSFS?
I did, but only for VR performance and higher render resolution reasons and for that it worked wonders.
For 2D, it improved things at the high end but didn’t do a lot for CPU-bound scenarios, like complex airports with lots of AI and MP traffic. Well actually it does if I use frame generation, but you can get a similar result using entry level 4000 series cards for a whole lot less money.
You’re also on a 5800x3d?
I did and I’m not unhappy with it but even with a 32:9 monitor at 1440p and everything GPU related set to ultra, the CPU (7950X3D) is still the bottleneck. So it depends on what your current setup is. With a 5800X3D I don’t think the 4090 will bring you enough extra umph because the CPU will drag it down. VR might be a different story, but I have no 1st hand knowledge on that.
My next step will be an upgrade to a 9000X3D CPU as soon as it"s available
