If you fly toward the sun at all, then your windscreen flickers bright, dark, bright, dark, at like 24 frames per second from the shadow of the propeller. This is nothing like real life. I have been in enough small planes to know you can barely even see the prop with the naked eye much less see flickering shadows from it if you are focused on the ground or surroundings outside the airplane.
I don’t see how anyone could’ve tested this sim and thought, “Yea, incredibly annoying and distracting shadows from the prop that look like they are being filmed with an old movie camera, that’s beautiful, let’s keep it!”
Then when you turn away from the sun a bit and look at the prop shadow being cast out on the wing, same thing, this low frame rate mess of a shadow just spinning away out there. Total immersion breaker.
Is there a way the prop shadow can be totally eliminated or give us an option to turn off prop shadows and reduce the visibility of the prop disc itself? Can the devs just set the prop shadow property to not transmit, or the plane to not receive the shadow from the prop object?

While it’s definitely a bug that needs to be addressed, I’ve flown around 20 different prop planes today and have only seen it happen in one, the Cirrus.
It’s really not very realistic. Please create a BUG!
Fly away from the sun with the VL3, then you will see a nice orange circle

I’ve tried one flight so far. Hopped in the DA40 NG and the prop looked horrendous. Then there was that weird, huge flickering shadow thing. I was having too many other issues with maintaining airspeed, so I ignored it.
nVidia driver 566.14
nVidia App
Using DLSS/DLAA Quality.
(I’m going to play around with the App and other graphics settings today.)

This probably has something to do with how developers can use the new propeller system within the SDK.
I’m going to submit this as a bug. It is flat out not a simulation of real life in its current state and thus, should be fixed so as not to look this way.

Yes, I noticed this a few days ago. Not nice, so I had to change my plane.
Similarly, the appearance of the ground texture/marking also looks awful through the rotating propellers, for example with lines becoming dotted.
I much prefer the old-style saturn-ring type appearance.

Interesting. The high prop speed is too fast for the smart lighting/shadow engine.
Yes the devs will have to tag the prop as “no shadow/reflection”, unless rpm is below frame rate (when the shadow/reflection is ok)

Yah the blade shadows on the plane even when they are spinning is really annoying. I’ve seen it on a couple planes.

The A400 prop shadows look pretty terrible.

I just flew the C408 and the right prop was casting the most annoying flickering shadow on the instrument panel the entire flight.
Blech.

Yup, the prop shadows in 2024 are a huge step backwards in realism. Has no one in charge of making planes or the animations for MSFS actually seen a prop in person? Stick your face next to a desktop fan at high speed and see how many blades you can count, let alone see the shadow of. It may not be cinematic, but a prop should be a blurred disk with very little changing texture. There’s a reason props are so deadly in real life and that’s because you can’t see them, and they particularly don’t appear like a strobing disco prop in your face

It was pretty bad in MSFS 2020 unless you had the Prop multi-pass mod, but it seems even worse now. How has MS ignored such a major immersion killer for so long? There’s nothing remotely realistic about seeing individual blades on a 2000 RPM prop. And I feel sorry for any simmers out there who are epileptic, because the flickering/strobing shadows are horrendous.

not incredibly annoyed, but this is a must fix problem, high speed props should not show individual blade shadows moving at low speed

Is there any way to get that old multi pass prop mod to work in 2024 ha that you know of?

It’s as though they’ve tried to model the way a prop looks on video, where the fps of the camera causes visual oddities.

The shadows look terrible. Also some of the props will disappear while in cloud including the spinner/hub.
Which is a shame since I like the new effect for the most part.

And here we all are, after SU1, and still have these ridiculous looking propellers and propeller shadows that have no resemblance to real life propellers in any way, shape, or form. Just like the wild cockpit window reflections and bizarre night lighting design, this is another in your face distraction that makes this sim very annoying to put up with.
hello
I apologize if this is a case already reported and I also understand that it is not at the top of the list of bugs.
It would be a good idea to eliminate the shadow of the aircraft beyond a certain distance, seeing your shadow at over 3000 feet is not really realistic.
anyone knows if this is at least acknowledged? or do the devs think that’s how prop shadows should look?
