I was on a multi hour flight northbound toward the arctic circle. The sun was up but setting soon. I stepped out to get a cup of coffee, and when I returned it was totally dark. Not even a hint of twilight. I couldn’t have been gone longer than two minutes.
I have Live Weather and Live Players enabled so I can’t adjust the time setting, and it should stay consistent with the current time. When I checked in the menu I found that it was way off:
The sim is 10 hours and 32 minutes slow? It’s not even a round number like it could be a time zone error or something. This is the second time this has happened on a similar flight too, and I have no idea why. I didn’t cross any major lines of latitude of longitude that I can think of. I’m still south of the Arctic Circle. Aircraft is the HPG Hot Air Balloon. Not sure why that would matter, but just in case.
Weirdly my keyboard and mouse input cut out several minutes later. They both still worked in other apps, and my other controllers worked in the sim. I could use a joystick to control the drone camera. But I was trapped in an external view with no way to correct the aircraft. There was no mouse or toolbar. There was no key I could press to bring up the menu. It was unrecoverable until the aircraft crashed, then keyboard and mouse resumed like normal.
The same thing happen to me flying into KLAX a few days ago. It was an early morning flight in real time and in real weather with cloud cover over LA. Just as I captured the glide slope to land at KLAX, the sky got brighter as if someone flipped a light switch. I didn’t notice if there had been an actual time jump. It was the first time I had ever experienced anything like it in the sim.
That’s a completely different thing. What you experienced was the METAR data from KLAX being loaded and the new weather being instantly populated vs a slow transition like it’s supposed to happen. Happens to me often both on approach (new METAR being loaded) or departure (leaving a zone covered by METAR).
Just came back from St Maarten to Madrid Barajas, a 7 hour flight in the A310 (very favourable winds).
It was a night flight. Something happened at midnight, and the sim aparently changed from 00h to 12pm.
I was doing some home maintenance during the flight (a good way to keep my wife happy with my sim hobby, since long haul flights for her mean “house-keeping-stuff-being-done-in-the-meantime”), and when I came back to check for fuel burn, the night had turned into a bright midday.
Had to manually change the hour back to 00:something, and continue flying. No problem, anyway. All 7 hours were logged correctly. I had never seen that, and I cross the pond frequently.
Live weather is broken one more time, as usual. This is South UK coast. Sun is not visible (it´s on top, out of the screen). However there´s a thermonuclear explossion bloom effect in the whole screen during sunset. There are just few clouds but you have lightning and thunders everywhere as if you were in the middle of the mother of all storms in the Atlantic.
I don’t think this issue is so much about Live Weather as it is the simulator time variable getting messed up somehow.
I know if there’s a lot of aerosol or humidity that bloom effect can get really excessive with a low sun angle. There are multiple issues with both the Live Weather and lighting model, but I think the one in the original post is just a time bug.
