It would, certainly better suited than FSE, which although is free, A320 jobs are pre-determined and few & far between.
The only downside you will have to contend with is being able to afford to buy or rent an A320 in the first place. If you play on the ‘Cumulus’ server, you’ll have to start small but could pretty quickly earn enough money to be able to rent an A320, and then as long as you keep up the payments (there will likely be a minimum daily rental fee, regardless of whether you fly or not), you’ll be all set. You could also hire AI crews to help build initial funds. Once you are renting and flying jobs in the A320, I expect you’d be able to afford to buy one reasonably quickly. which then removes the rental fees
Another thing to bear in mind is that OnAir/FSE are all persistent worlds, which means if you land in Dallas, the next time you play, your aircraft will still be in Dallas, and if you want to fly out of New York, you (or your AI) would need to fly over there from Dallas first. I guess while you’re renting you could rent a different aircraft located in New York - but that’s a risky strategy with aircraft availability and potential fees for not returning the first aircraft to it’s home base.
AirHauler2 could be another option to consider. I am led to believe it works with MSFS, although I haven’t tried it yet myself. That is payware also, but a one-time purchase rather than subscription. It’s the same philosophy as OnAir/FSE, although it’s single-player. I expect there will be an AirHauler3, or an MSFS supported release at some point, although the developer is only one guy and I don’t think he was given any early access to the sim or SDK
While I first disliked the PlugIn now I’m playing on the server without AI pilots and it’s been a blast so far. If any of you guys are interested in German speaking VA you’re welcome to shoot a private message and come over to our Discord.
To me, this has been missing all the years in Flight Sims though I still hope MS will implement something ingame some time soon. Im actually shocked it wasn’t in the initial release.
1000 nm trip for Onair. Appr mode wouldnt engage (was happily flying 7000 ft over the runway) so manually landed. It was 1am and I was in a hurry to log out so rushed it, messed it up and landed too hard. “You have crashed”
4 hours lost
I must remember to use increase sim speed on long autopilot flights in future!
On a different topic. Could anyone please explain how VA’s work? I’m kinda interested in having an account on the Thunder server and join a small VA, but would like more info on how they work first. Cheers
Wonderful description. Exactly what I was looking for. The flying out of the last place I landed wouldn’t bother me as I attempt to keep that set of realism in my flying for deltava.org anyway. I appreciate you!
Lots of issues unfortunately ( the time it worked it was OK though )
All weekend laggy or offline … Finally Monday started up … downloaded 44.5 MB update … " error installing "
Tried 10 times … "error installing "
Tried to uninstall ( like described ) … whatever I do … no de-install.
Created ticked … response " try to uninstall " … no responses after that.
Great … another 15 euros down the drain.
EDIT … ow the the iPhone app stopped working for days ( turns out a new version is on the way but nothing posted on the forum )
Ow and the forum moved to discord … and is not working for me also
So like what … shut computer of working ( laggy ) … switched computer on next day … fail ( coincidence there where 2 new servers and an update that night )
And if you check there (old) forum … more have the issue … and no response on tickets is also at my end right ?
Yup off course i did … trying ro delete all kind of onair stuff ( some windows does not allow ) cleaning register … same issue
Ow and like i added previousely … the discord is not working correctly so i can not use that ( tried all the rest tjough … so should not matter if siscord is working or not )
This whole virtual airline thing is new to me but i have been enjoying OnAir and will maybe go for a subscription. Currently the one thing i enjoy alot is the whole AI pilots thing, not having to fly every single flight yourself to make money.
Does anyone know if you can hire AI pilots in FSeconomy too or is this exclusive to OnAir?
I last used FSE about two and a half years ago and back then there were no AI pilots available to take on jobs. You could, however, rent out your AC to other simming pilots and get revenue that way. At the time I found it a fun experience especially so since I was mainly interested in short GA trips.
I am enjoying OnAir very much. It gives a purpose to flying instead of aimlessly wandering around. They have expanded their servers and it has been pretty stable for the last week or two. If you pay for 6-months, it is pretty economically. I wanted try FS Economy but it has not been open for new players for weeks. I’ll gladly pay a small fee to play now.
