Anything like a "plug & Play" VR headset available?

I have the Quest 2 for MSFS and I cannot get it to look even fair. I have a 7800X3D with a 4090 GPU so it’s either me or the Oculus. Is there a headset available that’s a little closer to plug and play ?? I know there will always be tweaks but I’d like to start at "nice’ and improve from there.

I have a Pico 4, but I don’t think just plugging in and playing is that easy on any of them and the Quest is supposed to be good.

Best suggestion is search for a setup video on Utube, try a few different ones as the quality of advice varies.

Thanks … Kinda what I figured. I’ve tried several setups from forums and YT and no joy. I’ve checked my link cable and it’s fine. It’s just pretty poor so I feel I’ve got something really messed up and I’m a PC dummie.

I’m a very long term PC expert,* having started in the mid 1970s so I know my way around.

I have a Quest 2 and if it’s any consolation it took me ages to get it working properly.

Have a look at SimHanger’s YT vids on his VR stuff. As good as any, in my opinion.

I think the Reverb G2 comes closest to PnP, if you attach it most Windows drivers are installed automatically. You don’t have to tinker with advanced tools (though you should. It basically works fine out of the box. That said it might not be the best option any more.

Depends how you want to spend. Aero if a lot, G2 if a little. Possibly Pico neo 3,but haven’t tried that. The higher resolution makes a BIG difference, as does the lack of compression. Or wait for Bigscreen Beyond.

Am afraid there is no such thing. Not at the moment anyway. But the reward to get the headset up and running and get the necessary tweaks done is so worth it. I have the G2 now and soon the Pimax Crystal is underway.

Can you elaborate on what about the image is subpar? Is it blurry? Low field of view? Wobbly image?
If it’s blurry then supersampling helps a lot. You can use openxr toolkit to override the resolution to something like 4500x4500 to test and use DLSS and ASW to maintain frame rate. There will be limits though to how much better it will look though due to the resolution of the panels in the headset and the quality of the lenses. Quest pro has better lenses but resolution basically the same. Reverb g2 has higher resolution panels but bad peripheral clarity from the lenses.

Plug and play though doesn’t really exist yet for pc vr. Basically all headsets require tweaking settings for best experience

I was wondering if you wear glasses and have the IPD/offsets setup correctly…this can make a big difference when you are looking through the sweet spot. I use the Pimax 8KX and it requires a little tweaking but the software has come a long way and it is very good for VR now…though it is pricy compared to some others on the market. If you do wear glasses and want a setup where you can take them off and still have correction in the headset there are numerous online vendors for glasses that you give your prescription and they make lenses to fit the headset that you leave in. Just thoughts on how to make the visuals better for you…the tweaks of render scale, world scale, and the various sliders in MSFS can work to give you a beautiful image in most headsets…but to get it just right requires watching videos of others and testing it out yourself to get the best image possible…as others have said it can be a lengthy process. Good luck.
