Apparently 200% render scale in PC settings does wonders for VR performance

No improvement for me.

Reverb G2
RTX 3070
32GB RAM
TAA 80%
OpenXR 100%, WMR
No reprojection
2D display 1920x1080, render scaling 100% → 200%

Thanks for info
I’ll give this a try

Some kind of bug no doubt
I wish VR will get more attention

Wow, this is truely insane! Just tried it and I am blown away!!!

Reverb G2, RTX 3090
All PC settings at Ultra, VR Settings at High with a few set to Ultra (e.c. clouds).
Render scale 200% in PC (resolution 1980x1080) and 100 in oxr / 100 in sim for VR.

This is no placebo, visual clarity and detail in VR is MUCH better. Every surface, every texture in the cockpit are lifelike now. Terrain also. It’s like being in a high-res movie! Sorry for being so enthusiastic, but this is a Xmas gift in June for me

Didn’t notice any performance changes and didn’t compare FPS, but everything runs smooth.

Still can’t believe it…

Ok, this is the original claim in the Facebook group. Nobody said they got a “performance boost” when trying this.

“Guys try this…set your normal pc msfs graphics render scale to 200% then jump in VR. So much clearer and no shimmering!”

If you’re seeing shimmering in VR, this may very well help.
If you looking for an FPS boost I think you’ll be disappointed.

I am not sure, if I should start the Sim for flying around this evening,
but if someone is already in there, Maybe it´s possible he/she tries to set the PC resolution to the lowest to see if any impact on VR image? Like checking the opposite?

At 100% OXR / 100% TAA with G2 I would expect clarity already… you saying this adds more clarity?

It stops the shimmering. If you’re not experiencing the gawd awful shimmering some of us have experienced, I’d expect you’d see no difference.

Thank you for explaining

I was really happy with clarity before - but this is indeed an additional boost!
Wasn’t aware of any “shimmering” before, but whatever has changed now feels like a new generation in graphics quality.

The garmin looks clearer to me with this, especially outside eye center.

Or I’m just old and going blind.

One thing I notice when was flying in London with the new setting, it that the textures on the buildings looks to be rendered on a better quality when the 200% is applied, you get close to a building with the CUB, and you can clearly read everything and see the details in a way that it doesn’t look so clear when 2D is set to 100%…

Well there are posts both here and in the FB thread where people report a much smoother frame rate, myself included. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they get more FPS, it could have something to do with improved frame time for example, who knows at the moment? I’d definitely view this as improved performance though, I’m not sure how one could label it otherwise.

My shimmering was so bad that ,by it’s elimination, I might have a smoother frame rate too but had nothing to compare it against.

For the first time, FS 2020 looks as clear in VR as XP11 does (for me). And that makes me a happy camper!

I’m using an AMD RX 590 so I wasn’t expecting a miracle but ■■■■ (ok…let’s try dang)…this came pretty close.

This has improved my flying experience, these are my settings on a 7700K and a GTX1080TI & Oculus Rift.

Could you post driver version for OXR, Nvidia and Windows version?

Could anyone who does see the difference please take screenshots before and after applying the 200%? I don’t notice any shimmering with either setting, so it would be interesting to see what the difference actually is for those people.

Yes, I agree. My first thought was “wow, how come I hadn’t noticed this before!” I’m also getting smoother graphics and a significant frame boost, though the fps boost seems to be more significant in rural areas. All the same, London City and Tokyo are both a lot smoother than previously and the fps is slightly higher in those urban areas.

I used to regularly set my pc render low whilst using vr, I haven’t noticed much of a difference putting it at 200% and clarity was pretty good whatever I set pc render at.

Need more time to test but only a slight benefit at 200 quite marginal

So just to be clear, what are we saying here. By setting the Render Scaling to 200 in PC settings and setting Render Scaling to 100 in VR, the experience is improved for VR but not PC? Is this fix purely for a better experience in VR?

I have been getting good results with 80 in both PC and VR. I run in 4K for PC, so I imagine 200 will be a performance hog.
