Tried, no difference. Placebo effect maybe? Or it does nothing with my specs:
i76700k
32 GB
RTX 2070
Rift s
Nevertheless I’m more than enough satisfied with my graphics and performance.

How does one (me) change render scaling?
Slide the scale to the right to increase it, to the left to decrease it.
There are two possible answers to your question. There’s a render setting for the PC side and one for the VR side.
Or the Rift S. ![]()
Were you having a terrible time with shimmering? Not stuttering or an FPS issue but shimmering that made everything look like it was made of ice or mirrors?
It made zero difference for me FPS or stuttering wise but 100% removed the obnoxious shimmering problem I was having.
I was able to “fly” (in real-time) the DA62 from Portland, Oregon to Sioux City, Iowa. Prior to this “mod,” FS 2020 was pretty much unusable in VR for me.

There must be a combination of settings and configuration that enables the render scaling increase to change VR. It doesn’t work for me even though I’ve tried the various startup methods posted here.

Finally made an account to weigh in with my experience. Disclaimer: I’m not exactly a gamer/techy guy but through MSFS 2020 but I have learned more from these experiences with VR and my GPU then in all my years prior.

I’m going through a struggle w/ my settings. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting an incredible image (even before the render scale trick) and other times I feel like I’m sitting inside a slideshow. It’s so inconsistent for me.
I’ve gone back and forth over whether or not the render scale trick works to improve visuals and I think I finally landed on, yes… but not always? I mean, when it works it WORKS and when it doesn’t I’m left fighting with my PC and headset for an hour instead of just enjoying what I do have.
The steps that seem to work the best for me are
-Open Flight Sim
-PC settings at medium-high end
-Set up and start flight
-Once in the game whether it’s on the runway or at the gate, jump into VR
-Switch to VR
-then pray I can go a full flight without my Oculus link cable disconnecting.
If the link disconnects then it’s all over I just can’t get back in to VR with a clear picture. Even if I manually switch out of VR to PC and then back to VR it’s like I lose everything. Regardless of what happens even when it’s working best I still have these stutters when I look down at the ground that I’m starting to accept are just gonna be there till I upgrade my GPU.
Anyway, this is just my experience from a pretty average users as far as knowledge of how all this stuff works.
Edit: I should add that I feel like this trick plus the latest drivers is when my Oculus Tray Tool seemed to actually have an effect on the game. Before this I never saw any difference with the tray tool.
Can you give some additional info? PC settings on medium/high but with what renderscale? And which OTT settings?
As a Quest 2 user with the same graphics card I have the same inconsistent experience. It destroys the joy of flying.
I set it to 70 on the VR side. Everything else is medium/high-end. I don’t turn anything down to low and the only thing I might put at ultra sometimes is the clouds IF I’m flying in the countryside or if I know I’m gonna be flying high.
Unfortunately after the first 3 flights the CTD’s (driver timeouts) are back!! every flight as usual however the clarity and smoothness is much better. Have to wait for Asobo/AMD to sort out hopefully soon or with DX12 possibly?
No difference for me with an RTX3080 going through a Reverb G2. Intel 11900k stock configuration. Most VR settings on medium or high when using my G2 and high+ using original oculus.
Does not make any difference at all for me
I could just play the sim on a lenovo explorer, gtx 1070.
With this trick i can play the sim with the same card, but in my heavely modded reverb G1, almost 4k SS ,TAA on. Incredible experience. It really looks like dark magic.
6600k, 16G DDR4
Open XR at 100%, VR SS at 70%, reproyection ON.
My experience with the 200% trick:
2070 Super
Reverb G2
OXR 80% VR 90% - I coukd notice a slight improvement, but was not even sure it worked or not.
Then I changed it to the following and immediately noticed improvement in clarity and frame rates:
OXR 70%, VR 100%.
Note: changing VR to 100% results in heavy hit on frame rates for me. Can’t play with this setting even with OXR at 70%. However, once I go to settings and change PC to 200 (while still in VR mode), I can immediately see improvement in frame rates and it becomes playable.
So my hypothesis is that in order to see the effect of 200 PC trick, your VR setting must be at 100 and OXR lower than 100 (probably the lower the better).
I have reprojection set of off in OXR.
**ASOBO TEAM, I know you guys are so overworked, but can you Ident or rock your wings and let us know you all are on this? Haha. **
I know moderators have FFWD this to you guys, but I am hopeful to hear from the team.
What frame rate are you getting here? My 3080 would be pretty low with 100/100 even with settings turned down - maybe 15-20?
I’ve not even bothered to look at frame rates,
As long as it’s smooth and no stutters I’m happy.
It’s most certainly playable and enjoyable. When I’m next on I will actually have a look for you and report back (probably be tomorrow as working)
But a side note that I thinks worth mentioning and that is the vram, I have monitored that and over London on my settings I have observed 16GB vram useage in 2d mode
Monitored with the insim dev tools, but as stated never used it to monitor the FPS in vr
Kind regards
Tried this today, noticeable improved in VR. PC ran a few degrees lower. Visually can see further, mountains in distance that were before shrouded in bright haze now can make them out as discernable landmarks.
FPS is between 20-35 (which is actually extremely enjoyable for me, but ill take more any day)

game crashes for me when i do this
@MaudyLad @Fmgc320 Mine’s not that good, but there is a noticeable improvement in clarity. No idea about fps, as I don’t track them and rely on my eyes to tell me if there’s a problem, and there wasn’t before this and there isn’t now. All in all it’s something Asobo needs to explore, though I don’t think they’re going to be exploring (or doing) much of anything that’s not an emergency until DX12 comes out. No point, because after that, whatever they fix now may not be fixed then (assuming it even needs to be), or it could at least hypothetically make it worse.
I’ve been looking forward to DX12 since forever, and it looks like that particular wait is just about over!! Woot!
