Are addon developers allowed to do this?

Are addon developers allowed to sell addon products though the Microsoft Store not the FS Marketplace and install them addons in flight simulator community folder?

I’m not sure if aircraft, sceneries, mods can be distributed through the MS Store, but utilities could be as long as it’s an app. The MS Store distributes apps.

Pushback Zoomer is in the MS Store.

Developers can sell their products outside of the ingame marketplace.

Could you forward this post to the community managers for an official answer? It’s an answer which could be useful for many addon developers. Create an operations centre app with the addon binaries included which are then installed. It’s a more reliable and safe way to provides addons. Microsoft doesn’t lose anything. Addon developers can update their products quickly with every update than waiting weeks for marketplace to update.

I sure can bring it up.

My thoughts is that it would cause further delays as these products would then need to be tested for both the ingame and MS Store. I’m not sure there would be personnel to do this.

The other issue is that purchasing through the ingame marketplace, Asobo gets a cut of that sale where as the MS Store, only MS gets that cut.

I guess the question boils down to: “Is an application distributed via the Microsoft Store allowed to come along with a “custom installer” which installs it at any given location of its choice (like the Community folder)?”

If the answer is “yes” then there would be nothing preventing an add-on developer selling her products via the Microsoft Store instead of the in-game marketplace.

Disclaimer: I don’t know the rules of the Microsoft Store.

Update: the next question would then be: “Is it actually possible to sell non-standalone products (only runnable together with some separately sold product like MSFS) in the Microsoft Store?” - Again, I don’t know the answer, but I assume the answer would be “yes”.

Thanks for the question! I don’t know the answer for this but will bring it up and let you know what I hear back. Cheers!
