Maybe a completely offline mode. No weather, no Bing, no live traffic etc.
But I guess it would need a completely rework on the software. As it is right it relies a lot on the internet.

Completely offline mode is Easy – Disconnect from the Internet. ![]()
(Or you can set the sim to OFFLINE mode)
or you can … ??? (use your Imagination, as those details cannot be posted in this forum without undesirable consequences ! )
After going through here I totally get what the thread OP is referring to.
The issue I personally see is, that new software is often in a state where it is actually not ready for the prime market (looking at you Assassin’s Creed and Andromeda). Once upon a time, software was released in a quite ready state because there was no internet to download updates or push them to the masses. If one wanted a piece of game or software to be successful, it had better to be good or another company might take that space.
When one knows those times one might miss those times. Stuff gets rushed to the masses to make a quick buck, grab ones data in the process and maybe sell it too. I’m personally being grateful for every piece of software which turns out to be great and receives also frequent updates.
On the other hand, I’m working in ICT and have seen many good things disappear and mediocrity being introduced - therefore, I’m really happy about games like MSFS 2020, Witcher 3 and alike created by companies like CDPR…
…but also understand the frustration, created by “downloads resetting to 0” (looking at you MSFS), forced updates, broken software on release day, etc.
In the end - I’m more happy to find a solution to an issue and applying it as running around rambling. Life’s too short and time too valuable for being wasted on something I’m unable to change. I rather put my energy in things I’m able to influence or change…
Cheers

Obsessing over a Game that, at the end of the day, you have absolutely NO control of its evolution , is a good definition of INSANITY.
In the latest Q&A video, they said they are planning to do pre-release testing with volunteer users. I think that will help immensely.
Multiplayer is also important aspect. People need to be on the same version to fly together.
Technically, that is a Gross generalization and assumption.
Multiplayer players need to be on a Multiplayer Compatible version to the latest version release.
And if they are not, then it’s easy enough to disable the Multiplayer functionality, till they do update to a compatible version.
What rules ASOBO choses to make is up to them, but I see no reason what someone with MSFS should not be able to postpone an update, with the understanding that some functionality will cease to work, till that update.
On the other hand, as we have seen, by NOT updating, there are cases that some Functionality will continue to work, that is broken in the update.
In my case, before that last update, my Avionics were Stable.
After the #3 patch, I find my Avionics “turn off” randomly, and I need to recycle the avionics ON master switch, and then the Avionics initializes to the newly switched on state (Correct operation), but I have lost my pre-turn off settings.
This to me is the final straw, and any further use of the sim, apart from Buzzing around, looking at Scenery, is a waste of time.
While I could quite easily go back to last Tuesday’s nightly backup and fly OFFLINE, but whats the point. All more a Waste of Time.
Life will go on without MSFS, and a lot more stress free.
Hopefully, by Christmas, ASOBO will have a better working MSFS, packaged up and under my Christmas tree, all ready for me to unpack with great anticipation, and play with.
Having really suffered during the installation and previous patches, to be fair, for me this last one was slow as usual, but even the “bigfiles” downloads were successful with no looping.
I think the files were smaller than before which may explain it.
It was the “normal” 8GB+ update from the MS Store for me.
I think I want this now after seeing what happened over the last two patches. There’s definitely ways the developers could make this work and still allow live data connections. Api versioning, maintaining backwards compatibility. It probably won’t work forever since apis are usually deprecated and removed at a much later date, but it should buy you those two weeks til next patch.
