Or the bush in the middle of the ANG taxi way at Tucson. Right in the middle. I even named it Russell
As it stood, we were throwing down a lot of polygons and doing manual editing to get rid of problem trees around the airports. They’re usually bushes that are interpreted as full-size trees. I’d rather them implement a switch to enforce a standardize clearance plane that reduces tree height if they penetrate the 15 or 20:1 slope within 500 laterally of the centerline out to 1500’.
But yeah, we’re not really focusing on larger areas, just airports.
We soooo need a master request list for the World Hub.
I make my judgement by the Airports that will be in the levels of purchase.
Please note they are ‘MAJORITY’ International Airline civil carrier type airports.
Smaller Airports were in the World Update releases.
MS and Asobo aimed the airport type at the ‘majority’ view by players.
That’s called Democracy. The most votes in the ‘Wish List’ got done. The most votes were cast by players who like flying Heavy Jets, not GA single piston.
I must add.
Other players and myself learned SDK to greatly improve the scrappy rendition of small GA fields in UK.
Some of the smaller airfields in the UK were given to us without any parking ramps. NO choice but to start on the runway.
Light aircraft GA was hardly thought about. Those players are the minority.
I’m not sure GA flyers are the minority (in terms of users) as much as they don’t know how to engage in the same way as those who have the experience in heavy aircraft that are a holdover from previous versions. GA VFR flying in the sim is pretty novel, comparatively. But it’s also distributed over many thousands more airports, so individual point-outs get lost in the noise.
That an airport is popular does not say they are used by people flying heavy jets. I know lots of people who fly their C172 or F18 from an international airport, just because they know that specific airport from their real world travels.
Also keep in mind that MSFS2020 didn’t have much to go for while flying low as there was very little ground detail. I’m pretty sure a lot of people will get an increased interest in flying ultra lights or helicopters in the new sim, especially with the new career mode (myself included).
Get FStarter24 and start anywhere at any airport or any grass field + much more.Works for MSFS2020 and MSFS2024.
Hi,
What I have done with these fields is use SDK to overwrite the runway, introduce a TaxiWay and a TaxiParking.
The length of the runway must be made a TaxiPath.
With a TaxiPath along the runway, a TaxiWay and a TaxiParking all joined up, I look for the Tower Frequency off the airfield’s website and copy the code from the Sample xlm to the airfield xlm that has been generated by SDK,.
Adjust the frequency values to suit.
Not only is there a Ramp for me but the Airfield Controller has a voice on the correct frequency.
I can then put in SimObjects that are at that airfield.
Have you checked out all the airports available that people have created at flightsim.to?
One of the tree-height related issues that drives me nuts is when there are stands of trees just beyond the end of a runway that makes it impossible to approach on a normal glideslope. You look at an image of the airfield in RL and yes, there are trees there, but they aren’t tall enough to impact on your final.
I got the Orbx trees package to try to address this, but I’d sure like it if trees were not just improved but sized properly based on the available data. In some places, trees are very tall; in others, not so much. Just like buildings.
Yeah, departure too. I end up having to apply a short field takeoff technique climbing out at Vx till I’m clear of them when it shouldn’t be needed.
