Hi all, i am just interestet here. Are you using such addons? I find most of them are very fps hungry, comparing to the vanilla addons like in the world updates where i have no Performance problems.
I think i will only use landmark addons in the future.
Lke CasualClick said, most are direct Google rips and are very poorly optimized. Depending on their size and complexity, they can bring even the most powerful computers down to single digit frame rates. Many of these are made by people who have no idea what they’re doing. They watch a YouTube tutorial and then go nuts ripping their local area out of Google and sharing it on mod sites.
You can sort of tell what’s going to be good. Acktu and Srinivasan are two makers whose work I happily endorse. Quality handcraft polys, very little performance impact. They care about their work and it shows.
There’s one package that is a theme park overlay in Los Angeles. Even from the screenshots on the download site, you can already tell this is simply a GI rip with no QA whatsoever. And it looks awful even at altitude.
What I really dislike about the Google rips is the half ars&& results. Somebody did Avonmouth. Instead of looking at what worked and what didn’t, this individual just ripped a huge chunk of scenery from Google and released it as it came. The result was that some dockside buildings looked great but perfectly good Asobo houses were replaced with melted blobs which were a diabolical mess.
I gave him 2.5 start out of 5 because that reflected what he released, half good, half cra& scenery.
They are too lazy to spend time getting rid of unwanted polys and things that dont work, its just a lazy approach to scenery design in my opinion.
My experience with large addons like that is that often they kill my X52 throttle. So have shut down the sim, remove the addon, restart the sim and it works fine… sigh
