That’s because that contains all the assets for the textures and buildings, so if you remove them at the absence of internet connection where the sim can’t stream the data into your PC, the sim will render a void space with nothing around you. So keep that one installed, while remove everything else.
I’ve actually been only using the Mandatory content and the ones that I can’t remove for over a year now. Everything else I only install them when I need, and remove them once I’m done.
You don’t have to install Asobo A320 to install the World Updates… You will need them if you want to install the “entire” world update package, which also have extra things like discovery flight, landing challenges, etc. If you just want the photogrammetry and mesh update, you can just open the World update package, and manually install just the one you need, without the other stuff that requires the aircraft installation. I’ve also been doing this method for over a year now.
