At my Wits end! I can not start a flight - Solved

Please can someone help me. I have reinstalled done everything I can. I can not start a flight it just sits there whirring away! I give up!

More info please, what is whirling away?

I click Fly now and it just sits there with the spinner in the bottom right spinning. Nothing happens after that.
I can see the AI planes loading, even my plane, but nothing else happens. Nothing in my community folder. I have tried on a VPN as well. I have fast internet.

It is always at night UK time, say from around 8pm on wards. I can only load the sim in the mornings it seems.

So, it can start a flight, it is just that you have issues during peak times.
That sounds like your “fast” internet slows down due to others jumping online too. Which is not uncommon. Especially with cheap service providers.

You need to find a better service provider. No one else can make your provider better.

That response is not encouraging anyone to offer help.

What is it you expect to be in your community folder? Everything is streamed, community folder will be empty unless you put third party planes or software in it. I would check your fire wall and anti virus settings in case there blocking msfs. Also make sure your clock on pc is set to automatic time zone and sync it. I’m presuming you are on PC.

The moderators for some reason took away my reply and left only half the information. I dont expect anything to be in my community folder. I expect a flight to start, when I click fly now.

I have solved it by Starting with the planes on the runway, which loads the flight fine. I can start at the gate thereafter by restarting flight and I only need to start on the runway once i.e. the first time I ever load a plane. I have found out that on first load of planes i.e. the first time you ever use it in MSFS 2024, especially with add-on planes, it is best to start them on a runway so that they fully initialise for the first time.

As I had re-installed the sim, I was trying to start at the gate, and this for whatever reason was stopping the flight from starting. This did not happen on release or before the patch. Anyway for now that seems to be the fix me. I never ever start planes on a runway, and never had too in MSFS 2020. But I am guessing in MSFS2024 it is different.

Glad you got it working. I’m UK as well and the sim loads quickly and i’m up and away in no time. It gets quicker at loading flights the more you use it. Enjoy.

Yes it was fine when it first came out, I had no issues. The patch changed that for me. I have and mean this probably every inbuilds/Contrail/orbx & every high level plane add-on there is excluding duplicates. I decided yesterday I am going to delete MSFS 2020 and just concentrate on 2024. I am not trying to use anything in 2024 that the devs have said you cant use.

I re-installed MSFS 2024 and tried the Justflight RJ 2024 version, and noted the sim would not load, I had the same with most of the default Airliners, or they would load and then after 5 mins 1 FPS. Re-installed again and so forth. It was only when I saw the FAQ on Just flight about loading first on the Runway, did the penny drop. It might not fix it for everyone but since doing that, everything is fine. I can now load the RJ/Fenix/A330/A400M/COWS Da 62 etc at the gate/Parking and boom it all loads and its all 65-70 FPS Ultra Settings.

Glad yours is working too, I wish you good flights!

MSFS 2024 is beyond ridiculous–extremely frustrating to use! It used to work “OK most of the time,” but I believe that since SU3, it no longer loads most aircraft, even default ones, although they appear in the “hangar.” The program starts reasonably quickly MOST* of the time (like under three minutes), but when I click “Start flight,” it usually just sits there in the “satellite view,” with the circular icon rotating in the lower right of the screen, so I have to try and get the invisible mouse over to the “Back” button to stop the fruitless waiting. When it works, it’s just a few seconds before I’m sitting on the ramp, ready for preflight, but most of the time (especially with add-on aircraft (mostly “premium” and originally from 2020, either from the Marketplace or developer site), it just sits there, so I have to TRY to close the program. That’s part of the problem–when I click “Quit to desktop,” it just sits there looking stupid, and if I click on the XBox dialog, it says “Running.” At that point, I either have to End process via Task Manager (which may result in it getting to 97% and just sitting there–overnight if I let it–the next time I open it), or I have to restart the PC, in which case, it seems to have forgotten about the “abnormal program termination” and I can try again without having to go in Safe Mode, which requires re-enabling add-ons (PITA!). If I can actually get it to work, then I only get one flight at best, as if I try to change aircraft or location, it again refuses to load the flight. Total POS program!

*”Most of the time” refers to its inconsistency–it makes no sense that it works OK some of the time and not others. This is a very fragile program that can’t seem to cope with anything it finds to be the least bit “weird.” BtW, I generally have >100 MBpS so it’s not a connectivity issue. I also have some add-ons in the Community folder, but these have been there and worked before, and again-the program needs to be more robust and adaptable, as most people don’t have new, high-end PCs or fast, reliable connections (plus the program should be able to function offline, but that’s another conversation that includes the need to be able to pick up where you left off, as was possible in FS9 and is possible in XP12). At least 2020 (and X-Plane) are still options.

Addendum: I was able to get the Carenado Seneca to load/fly, but when I tried to reposition it after a flight, it wouldn’t load. Further, when I exited the program (requiring a re-boot, as it wouldn’t quit to desktop), the Seneca did load, but after start-up, everything froze before the Garmins even initialized. It sat there for a minute or two, and then just disappeared. I re-started the program, re-loaded the situation (same plane/location/flight plan), and this time, I made it all the way to getting cleared for t/o, at which point it froze again! Too much!!! Reverting to 2020/XP12, at least until SU4 goes live (fingers crossed it doesn’t make things any worse)!
