ATC and altitude different

I’ve searched the forum as much as I can but nothing recent on this that I can see . I’m pretty new to this and still learning every day.

Previously , back to 2021 , this bug has been reported where the atc guys tell you you are Usually 500 feet too low , then too high etc when the altitude shown is spot on to what it should be …

Am I missing simeth8ng here or is this bug still ongoing ? ?

Cheers in advance …

Have you set your altimeter?

For example, when ATC says “Altimeter 29.49” change the knob on the altimeter to 29.49.

Or just hit “B” on your keyboard.

There still exists a difference in what your in-cockpit altimeter is showing and say, a SimConnect utility like Little Nav Map. I still see a 500-600’ difference in altitude reporting above FL180.

No keyboard (I am on Xbox tho tbh I am seriously thinking of hooking a kbd up to it) …

Still a noob so I suspect it may be the altimeter thing …no idea how to do that but I will go look.

Appreciate the help for this noob!

At least in US airspace above 17999ft you would use 29.92 as your altimeter setting…no matter what the real pressure is.
The real barometric pressure is only used below IFR flight levels.
