Flew out of and into Vancouver International yesterday.
I flew back from the mountains, active runways were 08 L and 08 R.
Rejoining the ATC was … join left circuit for 08 R.
This put me joining on left base for 08 R as other aircraft were on descent into 08 L, whose flight path I had to cross. I received landing clearance and continued across the flight path, next message was that the aircraft on approach to 08 L had to Go Around.
Being in slow Cessna 172 the instructions should have been different ie had me orbit until there was a clear space or transit above airfield and join Right Circuit for 08 R.
